๐Ÿ† Tournament of Minds: Congratulations to Our Team! ๐ŸŽ‰

Today, our talented Year 6 students Samantha, Cadence, Pippa, Henry, and Gus proudly represented Kandos Public School at the Tournament of Minds (TOM) competition held at Mudgee Public School.

In this competition, school teams collaboratively solved open-ended, long-term challenges, and also faced a spontaneous challenge on Tournament Day that tests their quick thinking and teamwork. TOM supports High Potential Gifted Education (HPGE) by encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Our fantastic team received the 'Spirit of TOM Award' for their excellent teamwork, enthusiasm, and polite conduct. This was a wonderful recognition of their efforts!

This year, our team created a unique podcast based on Greek mythology, adding their own imaginative characters and comedic twists. With a cast of creative roles, they worked together to write scripts and design storyboards featuring entertaining plot complications.

We cheered on our innovative students as they showcased their creativity and collaboration. A huge thank you to Mrs Turner for leading this activity with care, support, and guidance. Her dedication made todayโ€™s experience fabulous!

Thank you, parents, for bringing your children to the competition and for supporting them as they prepared and competed. Your encouragement and involvement are greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to the team for representing Kandos Public School with pride and having so much fun along the way! ๐ŸŽงโœจ

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿ›ด Road Safety with Rachel! ๐Ÿšฆ๐Ÿฆบ

This week at our PBL Assembly, we welcomed Rachel, our local police officer, to Kandos Public School to speak to all of our students from Kindergarten to Year 6 about the importance of road safety. ๐Ÿšธ

Rachel shared some very important safety messages with our students, including the importance of:

๐Ÿช– Always wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter
๐Ÿšฒ Riding safely and responsibly
๐Ÿ›ด Understanding that e-scooters are not to be ridden on the streets or footpaths, or ridden to and from school
๐Ÿก Remembering that e-scooters should only be used on private property at home, in accordance with NSW road rules.

These are important messages to help keep our children safe both at school and in our wider community. โค๏ธ

A big thank you to Rachel for taking the time to visit our school and share her knowledge with our students. We really appreciate your ongoing support of our school community! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ“šโ˜€๏ธ Celebrating Book Week at Kandos Public School! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ“–

What a beautiful way to celebrate our love of reading! As part of our Book Week celebrations, students enjoyed a calm, sunny and peaceful afternoon reading some of their favourite books in the playground. ๐ŸŒณโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

Students were joined by their parents and family members, as well as their buddy students, creating a wonderful opportunity to share stories, spend time together and celebrate the joy that reading can bring. โค๏ธ

There was something very special about seeing our playground filled with children and families relaxing in the sunshine, quietly enjoying books they love and sharing the magic of reading together. ๐Ÿ“–โœจ

Events like these help us to foster and promote a lifelong love of reading and remind us that some of the best adventures can be found within the pages of a book! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“š

A very special thank you to Mrs Connellan for organising this wonderful event, along with all of the fantastic activities that have made Book Week such a special celebration for our students. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’

Thank you also to all of our families who joined us for this beautiful afternoon! โค๏ธ

Today 2:45pm: Story Time together!

Family members are invited to come along and share a favourite story or book with their loved one in a quiet little reading spots around the playground.

If youโ€™d like to bring a favourite book from home to share, youโ€™re very welcome to do so. Picnic rugs and outdoor seating will be available but you are also welcome to bring your own picnic rug so you can find a cosy spot to sit and enjoy your story together.

We will meet under the primary COLA at 2.45pm and then move off to a nice spot to share a book. If you are unable to make it, students will be paired up with a buddy to enjoy a good book.

We hope you can make it!
Mrs Connellan

๐ŸŽคโœจ Poetry Comes Alive! โœจ๐ŸŽค

Our Years 3โ€“6 students had a wonderful visit from poet Hannah May, who introduced them to the exciting world of slam and performance poetry! ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽญ

Hannah shared some fantastic examples and gave students plenty of inspiration before they had the opportunity to create their own poems. Our students embraced the challenge, and it was wonderful to see so many confidently share their work with the group. ๐ŸŒŸ

With Hannahโ€™s tips on performance and engaging an audience, our budding poets discovered how powerful their words and voices can be!

A huge thank you to Hannah for inspiring our students to write, perform and find their voice through poetry! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ“

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“š Kโ€“2 Video Visit with Illustrator Katrin Dreiling!

Our Kโ€“2 students had a wonderful time enjoying a special video visit with illustrator Katrin Dreiling!

Katrin gave us a peek inside her creative workshop and shared the pens, pencils and paints she uses to bring her illustrations to life. She talked us through her character designs and explained how they evolve and change for each new book.

We also got to see how Katrin uses her tablet and technology to build up her drawings and create her wonderful illustrations. โœ๏ธ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’ป

Creating Our Own Characters! ๐Ÿฅ”โœ๏ธ
Inspired by Katrinโ€™s technique, our students then had the opportunity to create their very own characters. They started with a simple potato shape and then added features and characteristics to bring their characters to life. It was wonderful to see their imaginations shine as each potato shape transformed into a unique and personality-filled character! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿ‘‚๐ŸŽฉโœจ
