🎸 Sunset on the Rocks | KHS takes the stage

There’s a fantastic afternoon and evening of live music coming to Rylstone this Saturday, and we’re especially excited to see Kandos High School Captain Oskar Sander and Miss Johanna May taking to the Community Stage!

Sunset on the Rocks, featuring Australian blues and roots duo Hat Fitz + Cara, will be held at the Rylstone Region Community Association Community Centre on Saturday, 5 September.

Oskar will perform guitar at 4.40 pm as part of his HSC Music preparation, joining a great line-up of local performers on the outdoor Community Stage before Hat Fitz + Cara take over indoors for two sets from 6.40 pm.

The Community Stage line-up includes Around Here (Brent & Carolyn Barlow), Oskar Sander, Oscar Laver & Meg Benson, Dave Vladis and a short slam poetry performance by our very own Miss Johanna May.

There’ll be plenty more to enjoy throughout the evening, with fire pits, dinner, sunset views and even stargazing with Nathan Summers.

Saturday, 5 September
From 3.30 pm, with music from 4.00 pm
RRCA Community Centre, 1164b Coxs Creek Road, Rylstone

Tickets include dinner and are available through Music Hunter, with cash tickets also available from Rylstone Retro Records.

We wish Oskar all the very best for his performance and love seeing our students taking opportunities to share their talents beyond the school gates. 🎶

🎖️ KHS Support | Fundraise Badge Selling 🎖️

This Friday, 4 September, KHS students, accompanied by local veterans, will be selling Legacy badges outside Ahmedi’s IGA Kandos from 9.30am to 5pm.
We encourage our community to drop by, say hello and purchase a badge in support of this incredibly important cause. 💙

Legacy provides vital support to the families of Australian Defence Force veterans, particularly those whose loved ones have lost their lives or been seriously impacted through their service. Funds raised help provide financial assistance, educational opportunities, counselling and other essential support to veteran families.

Purchasing a Legacy badge is a small gesture that makes a meaningful difference, helping ensure the service and sacrifice of our veterans is honoured by caring for their families.

✨Transition Day | Year 6 get their first taste of KHS 💙💛

Today we welcomed nearly 50 Year 6 students to Kandos High School for their very first Transition Day!

Students from Kandos Public School, Glen Alice Public School, Lue Public School, Ilford Public School and Rylstone Public School joined us for a full day experiencing what high school life is all about.

The day began with our whole-school assembly, where our Year 6 visitors watched the Year 11 School Leader speeches. They were then given a very special opportunity to cast their own votes for the students who will become their first School Leaders when they begin Year 7 in 2027!

From there, students met with their Year Advisor, Mr David Fleming, before heading off on a school walk-through with members of our SRC. Across the remainder of the day, the two groups experienced a range of high school activities and lessons, including Mathematics, English, Science, Art and Sport, as well as completing some transition testing.

By lunchtime, the reports were overwhelmingly positive, with students telling us they were having a great day and, most importantly, lots of fun!

Mr Fleming was equally impressed with his future Year 7 cohort, saying the day had gone extremely well and that they were a great bunch of kids. He is already looking forward to spending more time with them during our upcoming transition activities and welcoming them to KHS in 2027.

It was wonderful to have so many new faces around KHS today. We hope you enjoyed your first taste of high school, we can't wait to see you again! 💙

✨ KHS Show Team | Welcome Kennedy 🐮

There was a very special delivery at KHS this morning!

Alex and Ebony Pateman and Matt Thorn from Rose Hill Speckle Park Stud arrived with the newest member of our KHS Show Team — meet Kennedy!

Despite the brutal gusts of wind and plenty of distractions as he explored his new home, Kennedy remained calm, cool and collected. He happily had a chat with our livestock and students and instantly showed us that he is going to be a perfect fit for the Show Team.

Kennedy is a purebred Speckle Park steer who will now begin his training with our students before heading into the show ring. We’re very excited to watch his progress and see what Kennedy and our students can achieve together!

A huge thank you to Alex, Ebony and Matt for delivering Kennedy this morning and for their support of the KHS Show Team. We are incredibly grateful to have wonderful people within the agricultural community supporting the opportunities we provide our students.

Welcome to KHS, Kennedy! We think you’re going to fit right in. 🐮💙

✨ KHS Opportunities | Student Leadership Speeches 🎤

This morning, our Year 11 students stepped up to deliver their School Leader speeches in front of the whole school, with our transitioning Year 6 students also joining us for the occasion.

This followed the first stage of the leadership selection process on Tuesday, when candidates participated in interviews with our Relieving Principal, Mrs Deb Johnston, their Year Advisor, Mrs Natasha Vidler, and a current 2026 School Leader.

A huge congratulations to Miles, Bronte, Ruby, Sienna, David, Tamarah and Jocelyn, who each delivered outstanding and unique speeches this morning. It takes plenty of courage to stand in front of your peers and put yourself forward for a leadership position, and every candidate should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Students and staff will cast their votes at recess today, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for the results!

Our newly elected School Leaders will be officially announced at the Year 12 Farewell Assembly in Week 10.

Best of luck to all seven candidates! 💙
