Balancing on a balance beam supports several areas of child development:

Gross motor skills – develops balance, coordination, body control, and movement.

Core strength – strengthens the abdominal, back, and leg muscles needed for stability.

Fine-tuning proprioception – helps children understand where their body is in space and how to adjust their movements.

Vestibular development – challenges the balance system and helps children maintain an upright position while moving.

Bilateral coordination – encourages children to coordinate both sides of their body while walking.

Confidence and self-esteem – successfully crossing the beam can give children a sense of achievement.

Concentration and problem-solving – children need to focus, plan their steps, and adjust when they lose balance.

Risk assessment – provides an opportunity to learn about safe risk-taking and judging their physical abilities.

The children were very excited to see the news this morning!
This encouraged discussions amongst friends, exploring ideas around what they could make with their new ingredient.

🌱 GARDEN UPDATE 🌱

Our little Sproutings have been planted!

We’ve been planting, exploring and learning all about how plants grow and what they need to thrive. It’s been wonderful watching the children get involved, care for their plants and discover the magic of growing something from the ground up.

We can’t wait to watch our little garden—and our little learners—grow!

Inclusive practices begin when children learn that everyone is welcome, valued and able to participate. This beautiful moment shows children engaging in play together, building friendships, exploring their environment and learning from one another.
Through everyday experiences like these, children develop important skills such as kindness, empathy, cooperation, respect and a sense of belonging.

In our nursery room, babies are provided with plenty of floor time and access to stable, low furniture that they can safely grasp and use for support. This allows them to develop important early movement skills, including pulling themselves up, standing and eventually walking.

We provide a safe, age-appropriate environment that encourages babies to move, explore and practise their physical skills at their own pace. Through opportunities for crawling, reaching, pulling up and standing, babies are able to build their strength, balance, coordination and confidence.

Educators support and encourage each baby's individual development by providing safe opportunities for exploration while closely supervising their movements. Our nursery environment promotes independence and gives babies the freedom to develop their physical abilities through everyday play and exploration.

Strengthening Fine Motor Skills in Babies

Fine-motor activities help babies develop the small muscles in their hands and fingers. For sticker art, activities can encourage babies to reach, grasp, pinch, pull, and place, supporting hand–eye coordination and finger strength.
Sticker collage — Lets babies place stickers freely on a large sheet of paper. this encourages exploration, creativity, and cause-and-effect learning.

In our Nursery room the babies have been engagng in a range of sensory activities relating to book week. Sensory activities support brain development, movement, communication, curiosity, problem-solving and social interaction as well as developing their five senses. When an adult talks, sings and responds to a baby's reactions during sensory play, the baby is learning through both the experience and the relationship.

Our educators and children have been dressing up for book week.
Book Week helps children learn much more than just about books. It supports:
📚 A love of reading — children discover that books can be fun, exciting and meaningful.
🗣️ Communication skills — they talk about stories, characters, feelings and ideas.
💭 Imagination and creativity — dressing up and pretending to be characters encourages imaginative play.
❤️ Understanding emotions and empathy — stories help children see situations from different characters’ perspectives.
🌏 Cultural awareness — books introduce children to different people, cultures, families and experiences.
✍️ Language and vocabulary — listening to and discussing stories helps build new words and language skills.
👥 Social skills — activities such as parades and group discussions encourage participation, confidence and sharing.
🎭 Self-expression and confidence — choosing a character and explaining why they like it gives children an opportunity to express themselves.
In simple terms, Book Week encourages children to read, imagine, communicate, create and connect with others through stories.
