TRAINING COUPE CLOSED
To all TAFE Gippsland’s valued employers and business partners
TAFE Gippsland’s Forestec training coupe is currently closed due to a court injunction brought by environmental activists and a subsequent ruling by the court.
Environmental activists are targeting VicForests’ commercial harvesting coupes through the court system in attempt to stop all harvesting operations.
The non-commercial TAFE Gippsland training coupe is also a target for action, as it comes under a VicForests coupe allocation and is located in native forests (to replicate the terrain and conditions found in local forest environments).
As you know, VicForests support TAFE Gippsland by allocating coupes for training in chainsaw crosscut, tree falling, Lucas mill, 4X4, Fol licence, first responders training for fire and storm damage removal and machine operations to name a few.
We are currently working with VicForests for a solution to reopen our training coupe, and all currently enrolled students and emergency response agencies will be kept informed regarding any changes to current training schedules.

Timber Training Unit has been doing some Lucas Mill training with the newly developed East Gippsland Timber Milling Project. This milling project has been an excellent initiative in supporting the fire affected properties after the big fires. They come to your property and mill the fire affected trees into the land owners needs for rebuilding, eg-stockyards, fencing materials. Fire damaged trees were used in the courses.
