🎉 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆!
This year’s theme is "Allied health: For everyone, everywhere” and celebrates the diverse professions, people and services that work to improve health and wellbeing across Australia. We’re proud to have supported 54 allied health students on placement in the Goldfields-Esperance region this year, immersing them in remote community settings where they can work with diverse groups of people, and learn from their unique cultural perspectives.

🤔 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹?
An allied health professional is a university-trained healthcare worker (excluding doctors, nurses, and dentists) who provides specialised diagnostic, technical, therapeutic, and support services to patients, such as physiotherapists, speech pathologists, and dieticians. Allied health professionals improve the health and wellbeing of Australians in ways people may not realise – and in places they may never have imagined! They work across hospitals, health services and private practices, as well as in schools, workplaces, aged care services, disability services, homes and communities.

🌸🌞 We had the best time at KBCCI's Lorna Mitchell Spring Festival yesterday! The fabulous community turnout meant we got to chat to a number of Goldfields locals about future course opportunities at our Kalgoorlie Campus, as well as all things rural health... Bony Tony even got to see some sunshine! 💀😎

Supporting university placements is something we’re really proud to be part of. It gives students the chance to experience allied health in a regional setting, work alongside our team and see firsthand just how varied and rewarding the work can be here in the Goldfields.

✨ This year’s 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸 event brought families and community together at the Museum of the Goldfields, as part of National Science Week. The team were excited to be part of the evening for the third year in a row, with GUDRH staff, and dietetics student, Macy, experimenting and connecting with budding scientists of all ages 🔎🔬

🌙 Science After Dark showcases the many ways science helps our communities grow, adapt and thrive, and provides our placement students with the opportunity to immerse themselves within the local community while celebrating the spirit of curiosity!

📽️ ▶️ 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗼𝘄: Our inaugural Goldfields Winter Seminar brought together 75 attendees from across a diverse range of health, education, community services and regional development sectors. We were incredibly proud of the breadth of expertise and perspectives represented in the room, creating a strong foundation for meaningful discussion about the future of the rural health and social care workforce in the Goldfields.

On Monday, we warmly welcomed our newest cohort of clinical placement students to Kalgoorlie. We're excited to be joined by such a diverse group of students, spanning across several disciplines including nursing, clinical psychology, physiotherapy, and dietetics. Coming to our UDRH from School of Nursing and Midwifery - Edith Cowan University, Curtin University, and Charles Darwin University - we can't wait to follow their adventures in the Goldfields!

Occupational therapists work with people of all ages to enable participation in everyday activities by promoting independence, health, wellbeing and quality of life.

👐 Through your OT studies, you’ll learn how to help individuals overcome physical, cognitive, psychosocial and environmental barriers to participation 💛

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝗧 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳
From 2027, Goldfields' students can begin their pathway to Occupational Therapy locally at Curtin Kalgoorlie - and you don’t need an ATAR to get started!

You can apply directly to Occupational Therapy with an eligible ATAR; or start in the Bachelor of Health Sciences through an alternate entry pathway, with the opportunity to transfer into Occupational Therapy. Both pathways allow you to study the same first-year course content in Kalgoorlie, so you can start your journey close to home and connected to your community.
