🔴⚪ Science Week at KPS ⚪🔴

Science Week was all about curiosity, questioning and getting hands-on with learning.

Our Year 6 students were tasked with planning, preparing and teaching a range of experiments to our Year 1 students, giving them the chance to step into the role of teacher and share their scientific thinking with our younger learners.

It was fantastic to see our Year 6s explaining concepts, demonstrating experiments and encouraging the Year 1s to ask questions, make predictions and explore what was happening.

A great example of students learning through doing, leading and sharing their knowledge with others.

🔴⚪ Medieval Year 4 ⚪🔴

Our Year 4 students have stepped back in time, with Art linking to their reading unit about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Students created illuminated lettering, perspective castle drawings and incredible 3D papier-mâché castles before celebrating with a medieval afternoon of traditional games, quizzes and even a banquet feast!

A huge thank you to the families who joined us and to Mrs Vincenti, whose creativity and enthusiasm brought the medieval world to life for our students.

A fantastic celebration of creativity, history and hands-on learning.

🔴⚪ Mental Maths Showdown ⚪🔴

Our annual Mental Maths Competition had students from Pre-primary right through to Year 6 putting their number knowledge to the test!

After qualifying through classroom heats, our top mathematicians took to the stage to compete in front of the whole school in a fast-paced battle of speed, accuracy and quick thinking.

The excitement reached its peak with the grand finale, where our champion Year 6 team took on the winning staff team.

The result? The Year 6s claimed the bragging rights!

Congratulations to every student who competed. It was fantastic to see so many students challenging themselves, cheering each other on and celebrating the power of mathematics.

🔴⚪ 100 Days Brighter ⚪🔴

Recently we celebrated 100 Days of School, and what a fantastic day it was!

Students marked the milestone with a fun parade, showing off their creative 100-day outfits before putting their maths brains to work with a range of hands-on activities and challenges centred around the number 100.

Each year group was also challenged to collect 100 items to donate to our local community. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, we didn't just reach our goal, we well and truly surpassed it! What a haul!

From counting and problem-solving to teamwork and creativity, it was a wonderful way to celebrate just how much learning, growth and fun has packed into the first 100 days of the school year.

🔴⚪ Happy Principal’s Day, Mr Ferguson! ⚪🔴

Our principal may be a passionate Eagles supporter, but after this season… the staff thought it was only fair to embrace a little Wharfie Time and celebrate Flagmantle style! 💜

Today, the purple came out in force as we had a bit of fun while celebrating the person who leads our school with dedication, care and a great sense of humour.

Thank you, Mr Ferguson, for everything you do for our students, staff and wider school community.

🔴⚪ First Nations Learning at KPS ⚪🔴

At KPS, we are proud to learn about and show respect for the cultures, traditions and history of our country and its First Nations peoples.

Across our school, students continue to listen, learn and explore First Nations perspectives both in and out of the classroom. These learning opportunities help build understanding, respect and appreciation for the rich knowledge, stories and culture that have shaped this land for generations.

Mr Rundle continues to take our classes through wonderfully engaging Wangkatja lessons, helping students learn language, culture and connection in a meaningful way.

This term, our reading focus has centred around First Nations stories, giving students the chance to explore powerful texts, important voices and different perspectives. In Humanities, we have also been delving into the history of our great land, learning more about the people, places and stories that have shaped Australia.

Last week, we celebrated NAIDOC Day with activities across the school, giving students the opportunity to reflect, create, discuss and celebrate. Students took part in a range of activities, shared traditional foods and were lucky enough to be visited by the talented Maku Dancers, who shared culture, movement and storytelling in a powerful and memorable performance.

The attached video is backed by a local rendition of We Are Australian, performed by our very own KPS Choir.

These experiences are an important part of who we are as a school. We are grateful for the opportunities to keep learning, keep listening and keep building respect together.

🔴⚪ Indigenous KPS Shirts ⚪🔴

We are proud to share the story behind our new Kalgoorlie Primary School Indigenous shirts designed by our very own Wangkatja teacher, Mr Troy Rundle!

This beautiful artwork places our students at the centre of KPS. The central meeting place represents our children, who are the heart of our community and the reason our school is such a strong, vibrant place of learning.

The pathways flowing outward symbolise each child’s unique learning journey. Every path is different, yet all are connected through culture, knowledge and belonging.

Surrounding our students are people symbols, representing the families, staff, Elders and community members who guide, support and walk alongside them throughout their time at KPS.

The animals featured in the design reflect our school values:

Marlu, the Kangaroo, represents Inclusivity
Piirn, the Gecko, represents Respect
Nyimu, the Dingo, represents Mindfulness
Waltja, the Wedge-tailed Eagle, represents Determination

The warm ochre tones honour the Goldfields and our connection to Country, acknowledging the generations who have cared for this land and continue to share culture and knowledge today.

This artwork celebrates who we are as a school, a place where every child is supported, valued and encouraged to shine.
