Local volunteers give an informative talk daily (between 8.45 and 9am) about pelicans, and give a little food to them. The estuary of the Murchison River is an ideal habitat so pelicans call in if they feel like some extra 'breakfast'. It is also an opportunity to check the birds for any signs of damage or illness, and there have been many times when hooks and lines have been extricated from the b

irds feathers, bills or legs. It's nice to find out about these majestic water birds and watch them eagerly embrace their opportunity for free food.

It was easy to be the "star" when you are the only pelican on the beach but, his antics and personality shone through. Thank you to the dedicated locals that continue the pelican feeding sessions for the benefit and education of the visitors/tourists.”
