The Supersonic Racing team from Joseph Banks Secondary College is back in action, revving up for the 2022 Formula One in Schools state championships. The challenge involves Year 9 and 10 students designing, making and racing a miniature F1 car powered by a small carbon dioxide canister. With two new team members, it follows the school’s state success last year where they made it to the national competition earlier this year.

🏎 F1 Supersonic Racing 🏎
The Supersonic Racing team is back and in action, revving up for the 2022 Formula One in Schools state championships. The challenge involves students designing, making and racing a miniature F1 car powered by a small carbon dioxide canister. The team has 2 new members and includes the following students:
• Isobel Cubong (Y9) – Graphic Design
• Richa Prajapati (Y9) – Public Relations
• Joanna Finlayson-Davies (Y9) – Team Engineer
• Amy Dziura (Y9) – Team Engineer
This morning, members of the team were visited by Sabine Winton MLA , Member for Wanneroo. Ms Winton has been a key supporter of the team, following their work closely and advocating strongly on their behalf - a big thank you!!

GIRL POWER!
Our all girls F1 in Schools STEM Challenge Year 9 team ‘Supersonic Racing’ are driving towards the 2021 State Finals again with qualification for the 2022 Australian National Finals to represent JBSC their ultimate goal.
This week, two of the team, Joanna Finlayson-Davies (Team Engineer) and Isobel Cubong (Team Manager and Graphic Designer) were interviewed at 89.7FM Northern Suburbs Radio by John Logan on the Wednesday Drive Show about their current drive to the Finals.
The girls spoke with John about the importance of STEM learning and provided an update on how the team is progressing and what each member of the team is responsible for. Be sure to listen in!

We had a great day yesterday at 89.7FM. We were interviewed by John Logan and we spoke about the upcoming State Finals, our different roles in the team, our car, our team brand and how we are going as an all girls STEM team.

Our work continued in the second week of the holidays as we continued to work on our portfolios and we created our orthogonal drawings and full assembly of our car designs.
Amy and Joanna did some more work on the engineering side of the project while Isobel and Richa continued to work on marketing and graphic design.

We’ve had a very busy school holidays as we get ready for the State Finals. In the first week of the holidays we manufactured our cars in the CNC router.
