☀️Sunshine, Nature and Creativity in our Nursery 2! ☀️

Our Nursery 2 classroom recently enjoyed a beautiful outdoor painting experience in the sunshine, where nature became part of our learning environment.
After discovering a fallen palm frond, our Lead Educator recognised it as the perfect natural resource to inspire creativity and exploration. The children eagerly used paintbrushes to decorate the textured palm frond, discovering how paint looks and feels on a natural surface while exploring the unique patterns and textures of the leaf sheath.

Meaningful activities like these provide so many valuable learning opportunities. As the children carefully held and manoeuvred their paintbrushes, they were strengthening their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and developing the muscle control needed for future writing. Painting also encourages creativity, concentration, self-expression, problem-solving and decision-making as children explore different techniques and make choices about their artwork.

By incorporating natural materials into our experiences, children are encouraged to develop on appreciation for the environment while engaging their curiosity through sensory exploration. Outdoor learning experiences like this support children's confidence, imagination and overall wellbeing, creating meaningful opportunities to learn through play.

What a wonderful way to enjoy the sunshine while exploring, creating and learning together!

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

There's no Friday like a Disco Friday!

One of our Educators have been busy fundraising for the Heart Foundation this month, and part of this fundraiser we have been so lucky to have some local businesses sponsor and donate. Without this support, today would not have been possible!

DJ M-Beatz definitely put on a show for our 2-5 year age groups!

Celebrating National Reconciliation Week at Goodstart Jones Hill
27th May - 3rd June

During National Reconciliation Week, our Centre proudly participated in a range of meaningful experiences that supported children's understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contributions. Throughout the week, we have engaged in storytelling, art experiences, music, dance and discussions that promoted respect, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all.

Through these experiences we continue to embed the principles of reconciliation into our daily practices and support children in becoming active, respectful members of their community.

Swipe below for some snaps of the fun we have had through our National Reconciliation Week.
