πŸŽ™οΈ JHS On Air Snow Reporters!πŸŽ™οΈ

In case you missed them, here’s a collection of highlights from this season's JHS Snow Reporters so far as they spoke live on air to ABC South East breakfast hosts.

Every Friday morning at 7:55am, our students share the latest snow report from the Snowy Mountains with listeners across the region giving each student reporter a unique opportunity to represent Jindabyne High School while developing valuable communication, presentation and on-air skills.

But it’s about more than the snow! Our reporters have been sharing their passions, snow style and experiences on the mountain, along with their future aspirations, interests and studies. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to share their voices and connect with the amazing snowy community. πŸ”οΈ

A huge shout-out to our Year 11 Snow Reporters in this group:
❄️ Finley S
❄️ Felix B
❄️ Jennifer B
❄️ Charli B
❄️ Lucy Q
❄️ Jakeb G
❄️ Rose M H

We’re incredibly proud of the confidence, enthusiasm and professionalism our students bring to the microphone each week. πŸ‘

And the reports keep coming! Tune in tomorrow morning at 7:55am to hear Year 11 student Millar H share the latest conditions from the Snowy Mountains.

πŸ‘ Celebrating National Youth Parliament πŸ‘

We were so proud to see Jindabyne High School vice captain Emelia G participate in Australia's National Youth Parliament last week in Canberra. Emelia represented our electorate of Eden-Monaro delivering a 90-second statement on climate change and the impact it is having on our region, representing our school and region with confidence, maturity and leadership. πŸŽ™οΈ JHS on Air with Thomas! πŸŽ™οΈ

Before you hit the slopes this weekend, catch up on the latest snow report from Jindabyne High School student Thomas O! Recorded yesterday, it’s the latest instalment in this season’s series, with Jindabyne High students taking to the airwaves on ABC South East NSW every Friday morning at 7:55am to share the weekly snow report. ❄️

A Year 11 student at Jindabyne High School, Thomas gives us an insight into life outside the classroom, speaking with host Alice with confidence and professionalism. A skier since he was four, Thomas enjoys the thrill of heading through the trees and carving his own path on the mountain. Away from the slopes, he has a strong interest in science, technology and music, with an ambition to pursue software engineering after school. πŸ’»

Stay tuned for next week, when we’ll share more highlights from our snow reporters throughout the season! And tune in at 7:55am next Friday, when Millar H will take to the airwaves to share the next snow report. πŸŽ™οΈπŸ”οΈ

πŸ”¬ More from Science Week at Jindabyne High School! πŸ”¬

Earlier this week Jindabyne High STEM Ambassadors ran the first of two Year 4 Science Shows, leading groups of students from through five hands-on science stations. πŸ§ͺ

Our STEM Ambassadors demonstrated courage, expertise and flexibility as they helped students learn about Bunsen burners, make elephant toothpaste, explore the microscopic world and much more! πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬

A huge thank you to our STEM Ambassadors for their commitment to Science Week. After completing two training sessions in preparation, their hard work helped create a fantastic science experience for our primary students. 🌟

🎀 THROWBACK THURSDAY: Education Week Slam Poetry! 🎀

Taking it back to Public Education Week, our Year 7 and 8 ASCEND English students took to the stage to share their original slam poetry performances, using their voices to advocate for positive change and shine a light on important environmental issues.

As part of the Common Module β€˜Slamming for our Future’, students explored how poetry can be a powerful vehicle for self-expression, advocacy and environmental change. They studied the work of Australian Youth Poet Laureate Solli Raphael, analysing how performance poetry can raise awareness, challenge perspectives and inspire audiences to take action.

Students then crafted, refined and performed their own original environmental slam poems, tackling causes they are passionate about with creativity, confidence and plenty of enthusiasm.

A huge congratulations to the students who shared their work at our Education Week Assembly:

🎀 Addison B – 8 ASCEND: Heat of the Forest
🎀 Isabelle E – 8 ASCEND: Words in Sawdust
🎀 Ashton N – 7 ASCEND: Our World, Our Choice
🎀 Attana S – 7 ASCEND: Look Up!
🎀 Ainslie M – 7 ASCEND: The Passion in Dying Fashion
🎀 Emily S – 7 ASCEND: New Jeans

Their performances were a fantastic demonstration of creativity, confidence and the power of young voices to spark conversations and inspire change.

πŸ§ͺ Science Week: Year 11 Chemistry Challenge! ⚑

As part of Science Week, our Year 11 Chemistry students put their knowledge of electrochemistry and galvanic cells to the test!

Students were challenged to design and build their own galvanic cells, first working to light an LED using up to three connected cells. They then combined their cells as a class to see just how many LEDs they could power in one giant series circuit! πŸ’‘

A fantastic display of problem-solving, teamwork and practical skills, and a great example of science in action!
