As shells made the ground beneath us quake
We both trembled in that crater
A toxic muddy bloody lake

To try and quell your fearful eye
As bullets whizzed through the raindrops
And we watched the men around us die

I spoke to you in stable tones
A quiet tranquil voice
At least I volunteered to fight
You didn't get to make the choice

I spoke to you of old times
Perhaps you went before the plough
And pulled the haycart from the meadow
Far from where we're dying now

I spoke to you of grooming
Of when the ploughman made you shine
Not the shrapnel wounds and bleeding flanks
Mane filled with mud and wire and grime

I spoke to you of courage
As gas filled the Flanders air
Watched you struggle in the mud
Harness acting like a snare

I spoke to you of peaceful fields
Grazing beneath a setting sun
Time to rest your torn and tired body
Your working day is done

I spoke to you of promises
If from this maelstrom I survive
By pen and prose and poetry
I'll keep your sacrifice alive

I spoke to you of legacy
For when this hellish time is through
All those who hauled or charged or carried

BOSTONS PRIDE (Ben)
Extremely hard sale as Ben is and has been a much loved member of our family but sadly his little rider has made the decision to focus on dressage and he is now going to waste in the paddock.

Ben is the perfect all-rounder for someone who wants to do it all. He was our then 10year olds first horse (16h) after jumping from a 13h pony. He has experience in jumping, cross country, combined training and dressage. Attended countless ponyclub and interschool days, comps, squads and clinics. Always placed at events including regional, and state events for both PCQ and IQ (member of the state selection CT squad for IQ 2020) and even competed at the Australian Youth Dressage Championships 2021.

Competively competing at Prelim/Novice he has started training some elementary moves (traver and shoulder-in). His little jockey normally competed 80-90cm SJ, CT80 and cross-country pre-intro (unfortunately COVID limited activities). A previous owner competed EVA95 and sj 1.10m

Ben is best described as a fun horse, with a huge heart. He is perfect on the ground and loves smooches, good with kids, other horses, quads/mowers etc and other animals. We've never had any health issues with him and he is hendra vaccinated. Whilst normally calm and relaxed he can on occasion have a William Wallace attitude to jumping and for this reason is best suited to a confident rider.
