🐝 Day 2 at Mudgeeraba State Special School 🐝

Yesterday was our second and final day with the incredible staff and students at Mudgeeraba State Special School, and we can honestly say it was one of the most rewarding experiences.

The excitement, curiosity, knowledge and pure joy shown by the students was simply exhilarating. Seeing their faces light up as they explored the fascinating world of bees reminded us exactly why we love delivering our BEES In Schools program.

A huge thank you to the wonderful staff for welcoming us so warmly and supporting every student to get involved in their own way. And to the students, thank you for your enthusiasm, your fantastic questions and for making these two days so memorable. 🐝💛

There were plenty of smiles, plenty of learning and, of course, plenty of BUZZ! 🐝

And there is no slowing down for us...

Today we are back at the EKKA! 🎡🍯🐝

We will be helping out at the Queensland Beekeepers Association stand, talking all things bees, honey and beekeeping.

Day 1

🐝 Wow, what an incredible two days at Mudgeeraba State Special School 🐝

Our BEES In Schools team had the absolute privilege of spending two amazing days sharing the fascinating world of bees, beekeeping and pollination with some truly enthusiastic students and staff.
And what an experience it was!
From getting up close with our native stingless bees, exploring the incredible biology of a honey bee under the microscope, learning how honey makes its way from the hive to the jar, and of course enjoying a little honey tasting, there were plenty of smiles, curiosity and fantastic questions along the way. 🍯🐝🌼

One of the things we love most about Bees in Schools is being able to adapt our education programs so that everyone has the opportunity to participate, explore, touch, taste and learn in a way that works for them.
These two days were a wonderful reminder that education does not have to happen behind a desk. Sometimes the best learning happens when you can see it, hold it, smell it and experience it for yourself.
A massive thank you to the wonderful teachers, support staff and students at Mudgeeraba State Special School for welcoming us into your school and making these two days so memorable.
We absolutely loved sharing our bees with you! 💛🐝

🐝 A little different for us at the EKKA this year! 🍯

Usually at this time each year, we’re busy entering the honey competitions, but this year instead we’ve stepped up to help out at the Queensland Beekeepers' Association Inc beekeepers, honey producers and our amazing industry.

And what a fantastic first day we had!
This year marks an incredible 150 years of bees, honey and beekeeping education at the Royal Queensland Show, the Ekka, and it’s pretty special to be part of continuing that tradition.

🎤 Jase was an absolute trooper on the microphone (a proven form of speech therapy post stroke), alongside Beekeeper Murray during the live demonstrations.

🌸 Tash spent the day helping the kids with flower crafts and talking all things bees and pollination.

🐝 And Miranda even jumped into the bee suit to get amongst the action and share the buzz!

A huge congratulations and thank you to Megan and Murray of Farmgate Honey for the enormous effort they’ve put into organising this year’s QBA EKKA stand, and every volunteer giving their time, energy and passion to make it happen.

After everything Queensland beekeepers have faced, it feels especially important to be there supporting one another, talking with the public and sharing why bees, beekeepers and Australian honey matter so much.

We’ll be back again Thursday through Saturday, so if you’re heading to the EKKA, come by the QBA stand, say G’day and have a chat with us.

The sweetest part of our job is teaching kids about bees.
This morning's Logan City Council 'KRANK' school holiday program was a bee-utiful start to our day!

We're celebrating Australia's Native Bees, Honey Bees and our hardworking Beekeepers that are working tirelessly to keep our industry alive.

Nearly 2/3rds of our food supply is pollinated by bees. Thank a beekeeper, spare a thought for our country's bee population and enjoy your honey, fruit and veggies! 🍐🥑 🍯

We’re incredibly proud to share that our co-founder and Bee Education facilitator, Natasha Roebig, has been sponsored by AgriFutures Australia to participate in the Agribusiness Leadership Program delivered by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation. 🐝💛

This opportunity will see Natasha further refine her leadership skills while building connections with some of Australia’s most respected leaders across agriculture and regional industries.

Natasha was awarded the prestigious AgriFutures Rural Women's Award for Queensland in 2019, recognising her work in creating pathways for women, youth, and the greater beekeeping industry. Her unique approach to apiary education “No Barriers to Beekeeping” has helped set a benchmark for beekeeping education in schools and communities, shaping inclusive learning experiences for people living with neurodivergence, PTSD, and mental health challenges.

Our entire team is incredibly proud of Natasha’s achievements and we’re excited to see the knowledge, leadership insights, and connections from this experience flow back into the work we do in education, beekeeping, and community engagement. We further extend our congratulations to Agribusiness peer Fiona Lacey who joins Natasha in this exciting leadership experience. Well done, Ladies 👏

Our Mayor Jon Raven recently shared with Channel 7 News the upcoming Logan City Council KRANK School Holiday highlights, including our popular 'Bee Workshops' and spots filled in a flash ⚡️

Once again, we cannot wait to fire up the bee smokers, spin some honey frames and get sticky tasting nature's golden honey with Logan's youth. 🐝🍯🌪
