I’ve spent my fair share of time on Facebook mum groups over recent years and it seems there’s not a lot we can agree on, breast or bottle? Co-sleeping or solitude? Dummies or comforters? Purees or baby-led weaning? But one thing I do see fairly consistently is the hate towards sleep training. Most recently I’ve seen Instagram influencers posting their success with sleep training, followed by screenshots from other mums making them feel guilty for putting their child through something so traumatic. I get it, I was once an exhausted mum who hated the thought of my kid crying for even 5 seconds. Then I bit the bullet and called in a pro. 3 days later I had a whole new kid, a LOT more patience and so much more to give.

It seems that the only options most parents see available to them are either 1. Answering every peep, hoping if they make it fast enough to bub that they’ll fall back to sleep quickly or 2. Leaving them to wail the night away until everyone in the house is awake and traumatised. Years of the term ‘cry-it-out’ being used as sleep training has us all terrified to even ask for help. Of course, no one wants to leave their child to believe that no one is coming for them, parents have spent this small person’s entire life building their trust and securing attachment.

I want to change this.

It’s been a big few months for our little family, we sold our first home and moved to Western Australia! Which means I can no longer do in-home consults around Jimboomba. Luckily, I am able to offer phone consultations to anywhere in Australia.
Now that we have settled in to our new home, I am excited to begin servicing Perth’s northern suburbs!

As your child grows, their sleep needs are continually changing which means we need to adjust their schedule.

🌜 If bub is fighting bedtime, they probably don’t have enough sleep pressure for an easy sleep onset. Early mornings and night wakings may also be a sign baby is ready to drop a nap as they don’t have the sleep pressure to facilitate a full night sleep.

🌜If you are following age appropriate awake windows and finding that it’s getting too hard to fit in a full wake window or that bedtime is becoming to late in the evening, it is time to ditch that nap.

🌙 Stretch wake windows out and bring bedtime forward while baby makes the transition.

While naps are important, night sleep is far deeper and more restorative.

Following an age appropriate guide to awake windows is so helpful in finding that sweet spot for great sleep.
An over tired baby may experience false starts, early rising, catnaps, not to mention irritability. Where as an under tired baby may have a hard time falling asleep, have split night sleep, early rising or only ever catnap.

Hi! I’m Caitlyn, I’m a mum of 2 and a hairdresser turned sleep consultant. I first became interested in the field after I was rescued by a sleep coach when my first baby refused to sleep. I decided to make the swap when in the years that followed, I found out just how many families go through the same struggles.

Now I get to assist families in learning how to teach their little ones how to sleep using a gentle and completely tailored approach.
