We are an enthusiastic and friendly group of people who meet each month to share our love of smocking and other crafts.

The aim of all Smocking arts guilds is to preserve and foster the art of smocking and related needlework for future generations
through education, communication and quality workmanship. Our group does this by organising group projects, encouraging individual efforts, supporting members to learn new skills and demonstrating at community events.

Our members donate items, which they have lovingly stitched, for sale in KC's gift shop, which is located near the main entrance of John Hunter Hospital in New Lambton Heights. The profits from purchases at the shop go back into supporting patient care and hospital equipment.
Below are singlet and nappy cover sets, which have been made by our member Christine.

This month we are having a working bee to prepare wee care gowns ready to be smocked.
The wee care gowns are donated to neonatal intensive nurseries. They provide love and support to parents of stillborn and premature babies at a most distressing time.

There are multiple types of smocking practised around the world. Last month our group focused on Canadian smocking, which is a form of needlework that uses tight stitches to create intricate patterns on the fabric. With stitches carefully planned in rigid shapes distributed over the surface of the fabric, the pattern comes to life as soon as the thread is pulled.

Our smocking workshop this month will involve incorporating beads into our smocking, and smocking up dotty fabric - see images below. Both of these do not need the fabric to be pleated first.
Visitors and new members very welcome.
