It's been a wet week across the southern half of the Murray-Darling Basin, with many farmers reporting useful rainfall an important point in the cropping season.

This map shows rainfall totals over the past seven days, to 9am AEST Tuesday. We can see widespread totals of 20-40 millimetres across the southern half of the basin, with rainfall becoming more patchy further north.

Much of this rain fell on Sunday and Monday as a strong cold front and low-pressure system moved across southern Australia, bringing wintry weather to many parts of the region.

The highest rainfall totals were recorded in the north-east Victorian High Country, where many gauges recorded between 100 and 200 millimetres.

Another cold front is moving through today, bringing only light showers and alpine snow.
Once this system clears, we're expecting a mostly dry and settled few days as a large high pressure system becomes established in over south-east Australia.
