Today, our Year 1 boys had a visit from the local firefighters.

Our boys learnt about fire safety and how to STOP, DROP and ROLL. They listened and watched carefully throughout a demonstration of the equipment, asking questions along the way.

Our boys were taught what firefighters do and how their job keeps our community safe.

We thank the firefighters for coming to visit our boys!

This week, we celebrated National Science Week.

This year's theme was Seeds of Science and the School's Year 11 UQ Science Ambassadors delivered a variety of events designed to spark excitement around Science and help grow the seeds of Science in our boys.

Science week began with Rise of the Robots, where our boys were hands-on with an array of robotic systems. Then, the Wonders of Science event showcased all the different branches of Science, with displays ranging from skeletons to holograms, along with fan-favourite, edible insects. The wonders continued with demonstrations showing chemical reactions, with the mystical genie in a bottle experiment, and electricity with the shocking Van de Graff machine. Rounding off the week were races with homemade DVD hoverboards and some thrilling Science quizzes, with prizes on the line.

Today, we marked the first stage of our 2027 Prefect induction, recognising the some of our Year 11 boys who have been entrusted with the responsibility of leadership within our School.

The induction of our Prefects is more than a ceremony. It is a recognition of character, service, and the trust placed in our boys to lead by example.

Leadership at IGS is built on integrity and humility. Through their leadership, our Prefects have the opportunity to inspire younger boys and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

This is the beginning of their leadership journey, with the full Prefect Induction to take place at our Leadership Assembly in 2027.

We congratulate our Year 11 Prefects and look forward to seeing them lead with resilience, honour and ensuring a sense of belonging.

Year 9 Science students recently investigated the properties of light using a Hodson Light Box. Through hands-on experiments, students observed how light travels, reflects, and refracts as it passes through different materials and lenses. By tracing light rays and analysing their paths, students developed a deeper understanding of key concepts including reflection, refraction, and image formation.

The weather could not have been better for our IGS Golf Day. The blue sky served as a perfect backdrop for our IGS Community to come together for a wonderful day of golf. Friendships were strengthened and new connections were made all contributing to our IGS community.
