Effie’s House FDC

Good afternoon all parents and happy raining Wednesday 🌧️,

Over the last few days, the children (ages 2–4) at Effie’s House FDC have had a wonderful time and have been very engaged in a range of learning experiences.

This week we have focused on role play, and the children have really used their imaginations. They have taken on roles such as firefighters, police officers and café workers 🚒👮‍♂️☕. They have played ice cream shops 🍦, picnics 🧺, cafés and even “the floor is lava”. Role playing is an important part of early childhood development as it helps build imagination and creativity (Queensland Kindy Learning Outcome 4), encourages social interaction and problem solving (Outcome 2) and strengthens children’s sense of identity and belonging (Outcome 1).

Due to the rainy weather, we also got out some old favourites such as the blocks, and the children spent time constructing wonderful castles 🏰. This supported their fine motor skills and spatial awareness (Outcome 3).

As always, we continued our learning program focusing on ABCs, colours, shapes and numbers 🔤🔺🔵. The children are showing great concentration and progress. Our youngest is still learning to concentrate for longer periods of time, but she is doing so well and developing beautifully at her own pace ❤️

We have also stayed in line with our term space program, decorating 3D rockets 🚀 and reading books about space 🌟. The children really enjoyed seeing their rockets go from flat paper to 3D shapes!

To extend on sensory development, we explored fluffy slime and focused on colour recognition, and also used sensory sand to make pictures and puzzles. These sensory experiences are so beneficial as they support language, brain development and problem solving and encourage children to explore through touch and experimentation.

Today we also celebrated a very special third birthday 🎂🎉. We believe that celebrating birthdays is important as it helps the child feel valued, reinforces belonging (Outcome 1) and teaches the other children to celebrate milestones and show care for others (Outcome 2). Our birthday girl asked for a pink Barbie theme 🎀 – so we went all out with pink balloons, decorations and delicious treats. We also played some fun birthday games including balloon tennis 🎈🎾.

Good afternoon everyone! ☀️

What a big and exciting week we’ve had at Effie’s House FDC 🙌 As part of our Queensland Kindy Program (Ages 2–5), we incorporated a variety of planned and spontaneous learning experiences that support the Early Years Learning Framework Outcomes 1–5 📘🌈

This week the children enjoyed exploring sensory play through slime and hands-on activities 🧼👋 which helped build confidence and curiosity (Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners). We also expanded our role-play area 🧑‍🍳🚗 encouraging the children to use their imagination, build relationships and negotiate with others (Outcome 1 – Sense of identity & Outcome 3 – Wellbeing).

We focused on shapes, colours, and early literacy and numeracy 🟦🔺🟥✏️🔢. The children loved creating their own rocket pictures 🚀 using a variety of different shapes and colours. Some of our children have started tracing their names ✍️, while our Kindy child is confidently identifying ABC’s and counting. Our younger children are also tracing, identifying colours and starting to recognise letters and numbers – amazing progress and well on track for Prep! ✅

We also participated in several sports and physical activities this week ⚽🎾🤸 including ball games, tennis, jumping mats and climbing frames. These activities support gross motor development and learning to take turns (Outcome 2 & Outcome 3).

The children have loved expanding their imaginative role-play 🎭, from car games and Floor is Lava 🔥 to doll picnics and tea parties 🧁🫖 outside. These encourage language, creativity and social skills (Outcome 4 & Outcome 5).

All the children have worked so hard and made wonderful progress with their individual learning goals 💪📈. Sometimes we also just take time to have fun – which is just as important for their development and wellbeing 😊❤️

Next week we have something extra special to look forward to – a birthday celebration 🎉🎂

🌟 Good afternoon families! 🌟

What an incredible week we’ve had here at our little daycare! 🎉 For the first time in a while, we had a full house with no one away sick — yay! 🥳 The energy has been amazing, and we’ve packed in SO much learning and fun across all age groups (2–5 years) with a big focus on our Space Program 🚀✨.

🪐 Space-Inspired Learning & Creativity

Throughout the week, our activities have been beautifully linked to our space theme. The children explored textures and colours through sensory play using kinetic sand, magnetic slime, and stretchy slime. We called it “Space Sand” and it was a huge hit! 🪐🔭

🎨 We also created planet paintings using paper plates dipped in paint and pressed onto black cardboard. The patterns were stunning and truly out of this world! (Thank you to our mentor April for the inspiration 💡).

🖍️ Our craft corner took a cosmic twist too — instead of traditional colouring sheets, the children decorated wooden rockets and space people, which added a lovely tactile and creative touch to their experience.

🌈 Sensory Play: Why It’s Important

Sensory play supports:
• 🔢 Cognitive development (learning colours, textures & spatial awareness)
• ✋ Fine motor skills (cutting, painting, grasping tools)
• 🧠 Language development (describing sensations & textures)
• 🤝 Social skills (sharing materials, cooperative play)

Using coloured sand also helped the children with colour recognition, texture exploration, and creative expression, all aligned with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) and EYLF Outcomes 1–5.

⚽ New Games & Gross Motor Play

This week we also introduced some new ball games, which supported:
• 🎯 Hand–eye coordination
• 👭 Group cooperation
• 🔄 Taking turns
• 😊 Learning how to share and work in teams

Children played tennis and “Toss the Ball into the Fire Truck & Police Car” 🚒🚓 — and once the balls were all in, it turned into a ball pit, which they absolutely LOVED! 🥰

🧠 Prep Readiness & Kindy Progress

We’re beyond proud of our Kindy child who is officially 100% Prep ready! 🎓
He’s confidently recognising:
• ✅ The full alphabet
• ✅ Numbers
• ✅ Shapes
• ✅ Colours

What an incredible achievement! The other children are also making beautiful progress in their early learning journeys — we’re working on:

The ice cream and pizza shop dramatic play areas were a big hit again this week. The children lined up patiently and role-played beautifully, building:

We’ve continued our daily routines with nursery rhymes and songs — including the fun and upbeat “Flying to the Moon in a Rocket Ship” (a Cocomelon/Teletubbies fave 🚀🎵). The children have been singing along, learning lyrics, rhythm, and movement.

This week is all about Fire Drills 🔥🚒 and Lockdown Drills 🔒🧯 here at daycare!

Practising these drills is super important for your little ones – not just for safety 🛡️ but for learning too! These experiences help children:
• Build confidence in emergency situations 🙌
• Understand the importance of listening and following instructions 👂👣
• Learn what to do and where to go in a calm, age-appropriate way 🧠🧒
• And feel more secure whether they’re at daycare, school, home, or even out and about 🏠🏫🛍️

This week, we’ll explore all kinds of lockdowns including:
🐍 Snake lockdowns (with our cheeky little snake on our house 🏡),
🚷 Intruder lockdowns,
…and more exciting variations to help children learn through play and routine. Too many to list! 😉

We’ll also be practising our fire safety drills with lots of fun and positive reinforcement 💪🔥

🌞 Good morning, wonderful families! 🌞

Just a little update on all the magic and learning that happened yesterday at Effie’s House! 🏡✨

We had a HUGE day filled with new experiences, imagination, and plenty of joyful learning moments across all EYLF Learning Outcomes 1–5 🎓🎨📚🌈⚽ — with our Kindy crew shining bright too! 💫

🎯 Outcome 1 – Children have a strong sense of identity
Our little learners were confident and involved as they role-played in our 🚀 space mission games, flying spacemen to the red moon 🌕 and chatting about what they might see up there. They also took turns, waited patiently in lines, and worked together like little champions at our outdoor Ice Cream Pizza Shop 🍕🍦🛒— building those beautiful friendships and social skills 💕.

📘 Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Whether it was shopping at the pretend café, washing hands responsibly, or helping friends in ball games 🎾⚽, the children showed beautiful teamwork and care for one another. They are really beginning to understand routines, community roles, and respect in group settings. 👏👫🌍

🧠 Outcome 3 – Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Lots of physical fun too! We played hopscotch, Hungry Hippo 🐷, tennis and hide-and-seek, helping the children stay active, build coordination and burn that big energy in healthy ways! 🌟💪 They also enjoyed the sensory excitement of galaxy slime 🌌🧪 with “stardust and spacemen” – perfect for their emotional and sensory development!

🔤 Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners
We LOVED watching the children focus during their Kindy learning time — practicing ABCs, numbers 🔢, shapes 🔺🔵, and colours 🌈. Even our little wrigglers 🪱 sat with amazing concentration and effort! 📖 We also explored books on SPACE 🚀🌠 and used our telescopes to spot what might be “way up in the sky”! 🧑‍🚀🔭

🎨 Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators
The creativity was flowing as we decorated timber rocket ships 🚀, moons 🌙, and spacemen 👨‍🚀🎨. These are now proudly displayed to share their imagination with everyone! The children also expressed their ideas beautifully during storytelling and dramatic play 🗣️📚.

🧑‍🏫 Our Kindy program continues to support school-readiness, building on literacy, numeracy, creativity, and independence in a fun and engaging way — and yesterday was a shining example of that! 💡📚🧩

💫 Today, we’ll be just as busy with more space fun, Kindy learning, and a special visit from our scheme 📝🌟 — which always brings excitement and a chance to celebrate all the great things your children are achieving!

Good morning everyone! ☀️✨

We’re officially back open today—woohoo! 🎉 Let’s hope all the nasty bugs are finally behind us 🤧❌ and we can get back to our happy, healthy routines! It’s been nearly a whole month of someone being sick (me or the kiddies 😅), so here’s to smoother sailing ahead! 🚀💪

Last week, even though we were only open for two days, we packed in so much fun and learning! 📚🎨⚽

Our theme was “Twinkly Night Stars” 🌌⭐—and the children created the most beautiful sparkly stars using canvas, glitter paints, glitter, and tiny shiny stars all mixed into their artwork. It was not only gorgeous, but also a wonderful way to support their creativity, fine motor skills, and sensory development, all while exploring colour mixing and texture play! 🌈👩‍🎨🖌️

I still have one little one who needs to finish theirs, so I’ll be sending through some starry pictures later this week! 📸✨

We also kept up with our kindy schoolwork 📖✏️—the kids are doing amazing with their program and really staying on track 💡👏. Plus, we squeezed in some sports and active fun too! 🏃‍♀️🏀

So even with just two days, we made every moment count! 🎉💥

This week has been another quieter one, with more of our little ones away feeling under the weather 🤧💤 — we’re sending big hugs and wishing all our kiddies a super speedy recovery 💖💐. With winter slowly wrapping up (hooray! ☃️➡️🌼), we’re hoping all this illness is finally behind us.

Even though it’s been a slower week, we’ve had SO much fun packed into our days! 💫🎨🧪

🛰️✨ What we’ve been up to in our space-themed adventures:
• We finally made our telescopes and they turned out absolutely amazing! 🔭🌌
• Created beautiful space collages using imagination and fine motor skills 🎨🪐
• Had messy, sensory fun exploring slime and fake snow – squishy, gooey and so much learning! ❄️🧼
• Played with kinetic sand and animals 🦁🐘, making up wild, imaginative stories together 📚🌍
• Imaginative play took over as we zoomed around with space toys, played pirates, rescued as firefighters, treated each other as doctors, and even enjoyed picnics under the stars 🌠👨‍🚒🩺🏴‍☠️🧺

🌟✨ Today’s little superstar is… O! ✨🌟

It was a quiet day with a few of our friends still home resting 🤒💤 (sending love & cuddles your way 💖🌈), but that gave us the perfect chance to enjoy some one-on-one magic with our clever 3-year-old, O! 🧠💫

📚🔤 O dived into learning with his ABCs, numbers, shapes, and colours — and wow, he did AMAZING! 🎨🔢🟦
✍️ He even traced his name and numbers like a champ! 🙌💪

Then came the real sparkle… ✨💛
O set up a beautiful pretend picnic with dolls, food, and even pretend honey 🍯🧺🧸 — all on the “park” (aka our carpet 😄). No help, no prompts — just pure IMAGINATION! 🧠🎭

We also had:

🚀 A space-themed sticker & glue collage
🦖 A space dino colouring-in session
🎾 Some action-packed tennis fun (his FAVE!)
📖 And of course — interactive books that he chatted along with! 🗣️💬

💡 Today, O showed us he’s:
