The Textile Art Award is awarded to one outstanding artist working with textiles. Congratulations to this year's winner, Sharon McKenzie for her work Gathered Momentum.

Here's what our finalist judge Rebecca McDuff said about the work:

"This artwork is a stunning textile work that showcases the artist’s meticulous attention to texture and layers to create a rich, tactile surface. The composition of the work and the artist’s consideration of layout and display are to be commended, as it is seamlessly reminiscent of a museum display and a contemporary artwork. Special attention should be given to the pins adorning the artwork, as they invite the viewer to more closely examine the layered details."

Sharon receives a non-acquisitive cash prize of $2,000 supported by John and Lyn Reynolds.

Entries for the 2026 Queensland Regional Art Awards open on August 10. Visit our website to learn more: https://www.flyingarts.org.au/queensland-regional-art-awards/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=qraa2025

Exquisite Co**se mediates on death, preservation, surrealism, information, and distortion. The exhibition is an account of the fifty vulnerable, endangered, and extinct birds of Queensland; and explores what is left behind in an age of the increasing vulnerability of factual information. This exhibition is a continuation of a series of works begun by the artist in 2013, depicting the endangered birds and mammals of Ipswich and its surrounds. Sharon McKenzie’s work is about the relationship between humans and the natural world, with a particular focus on vulnerable species of birds as a way of expressing “Solastalgia” – the sense of grief experienced by humanity due to the climate crisis.
