Welcome to Thursday's teacher tip!
From a very early age we learn through play. For some reason as we get older, the expectation is to learn more formally. While this is the conventional way of learning and teaching, we encourage our students to continue to learn through play. Using tactile learning techniques such as sand sums, or board games and pieces, to learn some of the more traditional aspects of the curriculum.
Next time you're doing math homework with your little one, crank out the dominoes and add the numbers. For older kids, try multiplying them.
While reading is always beneficial, so is story telling. Ask your child to recount their day to you or let them help you make up their bedtime story.
Card games are great for memory, sequencing and pattern recognition. Checkers or chess are great for strategy.
Simple things you can encourage at home to help with basic skills to help further their learning.
