IGS Early Learners

Our under-the-sea rice sensory experience provided the children with opportunities to explore texture, colour, movement and imaginative play.

Scooping, pouring and manipulating the materials supported fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and sensory exploration, while engaging in meaningful ocean-themed play.

Our ELC children had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week as they joined the Junior School boys at IGS.

There was plenty of excitement, colour and imagination on display as the children proudly shared their costumes and joined in the fun. It was a beautiful celebration of storytelling, creativity and the joy of books.

Connection is more than just a hello - it’s about building relationships, sharing meaningful moments and creating a sense of belonging.

Our little learners were delighted to meet IGS Headmaster Dr Adam Forsyth, providing a valuable opportunity to connect with the wider school community and strengthen the partnerships that support our shared commitment to nurturing confident, curious and capable young learners.

We’ve been busy preparing our Children’s Rights Book for our upcoming book launch, including recent visits to IGS to capture special moments for this exciting project.

The Junior Kindy 2 children have been enjoying exploring their senses and colour by incorporating food into their play and learning.

Today, the children transformed their mud kitchen into a magical kitchen filled with oranges, herbs, and coloured water. They used the natural materials and tools provided to create their own imaginative recipes while engaging in rich sensory play.

As they role-played cooking, the children also strengthened their fine motor skills through scooping, pouring, mixing, squeezing, and using eye droppers. These simple actions help build the coordination and hand strength needed for everyday tasks, while encouraging creativity, communication, and collaborative play.

Our children's interest in paramedics inspired a dress-up and role-play experience where they explored helping others, teamwork and caring for their community.

In early childhood education, extending children's interests through play supports communication, empathy, problem-solving and creativity. By following their curiosity, we create meaningful learning experiences that build confidence and a love of learning.

As we begin NAIDOC Week, the children have been connecting with Country by caring for our gardens and learning how the changing seasons influence what we grow.

Together, they prepared the garden beds, planted flowers, herbs, climbing peas and created a Bush Tucker garden with native plants including midyim berry, saltbush and bignay.

Through these experiences, the children are developing an understanding of caring for Country, sustainable practices, teamwork and First Nations perspectives.

At IGS Early Learners, we're nurturing language, literacy and a love of reading from the moment children arrive each day.

Our Book Walk encourages children to explore the Book of the Week, make predictions, build vocabulary and share their ideas before bringing the story to life through drawing, writing and storytelling.

Every day is another opportunity to inspire confident communicators and lifelong readers.

Today, our little learners enjoyed making mini pizzas while developing valuable everyday life skills. They practised self-help skills, made choices about their toppings, built communication through conversation and requesting ingredients, and strengthened social interaction by working together and taking turns. At IGS Early Learners, we create meaningful learning experiences that are both fun and rewarding.
