🎉🌟Happy 90th Birthday to Mrs Kindy Olive Simeon🌟🎉

Olive holds the title of Patroness and is a Life Member of our Kindergarten Association. As one of our founding members, she helped establish our Kindergarten more than 50 years ago.

Over the decades, Olive has generously devoted countless hours to our community Kindy through fundraising, attending meetings, supporting social events, and rolling up her sleeves at working bees.

To this day, she remains sharp as a tack!📌and continues to take an active interest in our Kindergarten and parent committee—offering guidance, sharing her wisdom, and supporting members with her invaluable experience.

Thank you, Olive, for your remarkable dedication, passion, and lifelong commitment. We celebrate you.

🛁 Baby Bathing at Kindy!

Recently we had two of our Gecko kindy mums come to teach us about baby bathing!
One mum showed us how to safely bathe a baby, including checking the water temperature and the importance of adult supervision. Our second kindy mum brought in her twin babies to demonstrate her baby bath routine. We loved having cuddles and seeing all the baby’s adorable smiles!

This week we had a special visit from Azza (Peewees kindy Dad), who shared his Māori culture with us!

Azza showed us his amazing cultural tattoos, which represent his family and heritage. His head tattoo is his favourite — it honours his father and shows their shared journey. His arm tattoo is like a family tree, showing past kings, a queen, and the important women in his life.

He also showed us traditional Māori expressions and movements used in cultural performances. The children had fun learning how to stand, move their hands, and make strong facial expressions. Watching Azza perform the Haka was a real highlight!

Thank you, Azza, for helping us learn more about your culture in such a meaningful and engaging way!

We had a wonderful visit from Jatinder (Peewees kindy mum), who shared her Indian culture with us!

The children loved exploring traditional clothes like the Kudti and Salwar for girls, and Kudta and Pajama for boys. Jatinder also showed us beautiful accessories like bangles, a paranda for the hair, and payal anklets with little bells.

She explained the meanings of cultural items like the fulkari scarf and bindi, and helped us try on traditional shoes.

Jatinder created a special dress-up area with Indian clothes, jewellery, and shoes for the children to enjoy.

The highlight was getting our names written in mehndi (henna), a tradition used for weddings and festivals.

Thank you, Jatinder, for this fun, hands-on cultural experience and for sharing your traditions with us! 💛🌸

Our teacher and educators joined Cecilia and Jackie from Connecting the Dots through Culture, on an immersive study tour to Thursday Island. Being on country and engaging directly with local elders and community people was a unique opportunity to connect with Torres Strait Islander culture firsthand. This authenic experience enabled educators to learn how to incorporate these insights and perspectives into our Kindy practise. The learning tour was funded through the Queensland government kindy uplift funding program.
