CCS Approved Hi, my name is Kirstin Kangas, and I have a passion for working with Children.

I have been doing family day care since November 2011, and am loving it. I have current First Aid, CPR, Asthma+Anaphylaxis management, and a positive notice blue card. I have my Diploma in Children's services and am currently studying my Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. I am able to work flexible hours suited to the needs of individual families, and am able to provide care at the last minute

What a wonderful day we’ve had at day care today! 💛

We were busy exploring, learning, and having lots of fun through a variety of activities:
- Creating shapes and patterns on the peg and rubber band boards
- Working together to complete puzzles
- Building and problem-solving with the pipe connecting set
- Hanging our monkey friend around the room so he could watch us play 🐒
- Giving Bronte a ride in the back of the John Deere truck 🚜🤣
- Driving toy cars and animals around the play mat
- Practicing fine motor skills with animal threading
- Working as a team to build a super tall tower 🏗️
- Sharing show and tell – River brought his Hulk book! We asked him some questions about it and then read a few pages together 📖💚
- Enjoying water play with our brand-new sprinkler tunnel 💦
- Jumping and laughing on the trampoline
- Getting into the spooky spirit with Halloween yoga 🕷️🧘‍♀️
- Doing spider printing using paper towel rolls 🕸️

It’s been a day full of imagination, teamwork, and laughter — just the way we like it! 🥰

🌟 Tuesday Fun at Day Care! 🌟

We’ve had a very busy and exciting day today! The children were full of energy and curiosity as we welcomed a new friend into our group. Everyone enjoyed playing tea parties together — a lovely way to get to know each other. ☕💛

Throughout the day, we explored so many fun activities:
🚚 Driving the toy trucks around the room
👗 Playing dress ups and using our imaginations
🎨 Creating a beautiful painting
🕷 Making Halloween spider prints using paper towel rolls, then decorating them with eyes and mouth stickers
🧗‍♀️ Climbing and balancing on the obstacle course
🤸‍♂️ Jumping on the trampoline together
🏖 Playing in the sandpit
🚴‍♂️ Riding the trikes and crazy coupe cars
🧘‍♀️ Moving our bodies during Halloween yoga
💃 Dancing to all of our favourite songs

It was such a wonderful day full of laughter, creativity, and connection. We can’t wait to see what fun tomorrow brings! 🎃✨

We had such a busy and exciting day today, filled with play, creativity, and teamwork! The children explored so many different activities:

- Challenging each other at Mastermind — building problem-solving, memory and strategic thinking
- Making patterns on the peg and rubber band boards — strengthening fine motor skills and exploring shapes and patterns
- 🛠 Building with the pipe construction set — experimenting, constructing, and using creativity to design and build
- 🚚 Driving the trucks around the room — developing social play, sharing, and cooperation
- 🎨 Trying out string painting — exploring new techniques, cause and effect, and expressing creativity
- 🏖 Baking in the sandpit — working together, role playing, and using imagination (the children even made Miss Kirstin a cheesecake for her birthday!) 🍰
- 👗 Dressing up — exploring different roles, building confidence, and engaging in imaginative play
- ✏️ Drawing — developing pre-writing skills and expressing ideas through art

So much learning happening through play — and plenty of laughter along the way 💛

Wednesday 24th September – Week 1 of School Holidays

We had such a wonderful day yesterday, filled with fun, laughter, and learning:
- 🚜 Drove the animals around in the back of the dump trucks
- 👗 Played dress-ups as superheroes and princesses
- 🔺 Copied different patterns on the peg and rubber band boards – and even made our own creative designs
- 🧱 Built amazing creations together with the Duplo blocks
- 🥧 Made mud pies in the sandpit
- 💧 Aria asked us if water would stay on top of the sand or sink – we predicted it would soak in, and discovered we were right!
- 🤗 Shared lots of “huggles” with baby Bronte
- 🏗️ Kade challenged us to guess how many blocks it would take for his tower to fall – Miss Kirstin guessed wrong 4 times, which made him very happy! The tower made it to “60-something” blocks before toppling
- 🌈 Experimented with our new colour wands – looking through them at the world and combining colours to make new ones
- ⛏️ Dug tunnels and built sandcastles in the sandpit
- 🔧 Built with our new “pipe” construction set
- 🧘 Finished the day with some calming Cosmic Kids yoga

Over the past two weeks, our days have been filled with fun, learning, and lots of play! 🌟 We’ve been so busy exploring, creating, and working together that I haven’t had a chance to post much – but here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to:

- We added more colourful “dots” to our art wall 🎨
- Built towers and designs with coloured pebbles 🪨
- Experimented with what floats and sinks in water 💧
- Discovered new play with our tractors and trucks 🚜
- Dug and moulded creations with kinetic sand ✨
- Rode trucks around the room and trikes around the yard 🚲
- Took on challenges in our obstacle course 💪
- Worked together in the sandpit 🏖️
- Enjoyed listening to school kids read us stories 📚
- Made our very own balloon friends 🎈
- Nurtured and cared for our baby dolls 🍼
- Set up a pretend shop, taking turns as shopkeepers and customers 🛒
- Played imaginatively with toy animals 🐮🐯
- Created Captain Hook art for International Pirate Day 🏴‍☠️
- Helped Miss Kirstin vacuum and mop the floors 🧹🧽
- Mixed up some soft, squishy cloud dough ☁️
- Enjoyed lots of painting and creativity 🖌️
- Built with Duplo blocks 🧱
- Zoomed down the roller coaster 🎢
…and so much more! 🫶🏻

It’s been a joy watching the children explore new ideas, develop their imaginations, and work together during play. These busy weeks have been filled with laughter, creativity, and wonderful moments of learning. ❤️

✨ International Dot Day ✨

Today we celebrated International Dot Day – a global event that inspires creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ story The Dot.

The children embraced their creativity by:
🎨 Making their own “dot” paintings using wooden blocks and paper towel rolls
🖍 Creating colourful “dot crafts” with different sized circles glued onto paper
🖼 Proudly displaying their artwork on our wall for everyone to enjoy

Alongside our dot-themed fun, we explored a variety of other activities, including:
- Working together on puzzles
- T-Rex themed yoga 🦖
- Singing and dancing to some K-pop Demon Hunters songs 🤣
- Enjoying story time together 📚
- Experimenting with salt + watercolour painting
- Forming our own band with musical instruments 🎶
- Building a Lego house for the dolls (and of course, the spider too!)
- Dancing to lots of different songs 💃🕺
- Role-playing shopping adventures
- Playing with our brand-new toy trucks 🚚

We were also lucky to have our work placement student, Miss Mia, spend the afternoon with us. She joined in with a range of activities, and the children really enjoyed getting to know her! 💕

🌿 Mindfulness Day 🌿

Today we celebrated Mindfulness Day, which was a lovely follow up from R U OK? Day yesterday. 💛 I didn’t take a lot of photos as I was busy being in the moment and spending time playing and creating with the children.

Throughout the day the children explored different activities that encouraged kindness, calmness, and working together:
✨ We spoke about the people we love and trust, then decorated a hand with five people who are special to us
✨ We made special cards for someone we love
✨ We painted rocks with positive affirmations to gift alongside our cards
✨ We role-played caring for babies, showing empathy and gentleness
✨ We sang and danced to some Wiggles music
✨ We worked together to complete puzzles, practicing teamwork and patience

Mindfulness helps children slow down, connect with their feelings, and build positive relationships. Today’s experiences gave them opportunities to express care for others. 💕
