šŸ“š Week 7 at Mount Fox – we love Book Week!

There was a little bit of excitement each morning as we unwrapped a surprise book to read and share together, finishing the week with our special Symphony of Stories surprise box on Friday.

Safia also headed off for a high school visit as part of her transition preparations, while the rest of us kept busy caring for our gardens and tracking the results of our watering investigation.

A fresh load of sand arriving for the sandpit was another very exciting moment, and our Little Learners loved being back together for Playgroup on Wednesday morning.

We have also been putting our persuasive writing skills to very good use, with plenty of convincing arguments about why Mrs Murphy should let us have a class pet! We will have to wait and see whether they can persuade her… 🐾

Week 6 was National Science Week, and we enjoyed exploring the theme Seeds of Science.

After plenty of research and planning, our students constructed a frog hotel—complete with all the right amenities! We also began an experiment to discover the most water-efficient way to keep our veggie gardens happy and healthy.

We were also delighted to welcome Helena from Pick of the Crop and loved showing her the projects we have been working on around our school. 🐸🌱

We have been so busy over the past couple of weeks and have lots of wonderful learning and adventures to share!

First up, we are looking back at our Week 5 camp. The girls and Mrs Murphy travelled with Toobanna State School and Garbutt State School to Daradgee Environmental Education Centre for three action-packed days.

From new experiences and outdoor challenges to plenty of fun and laughter, the camp provided so many opportunities to learn, grow and work together. New friendships were formed, skills were developed and some very special memories were made along the way.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this such a positive and memorable experience for our students!

We are proud to be a recipient of the Wheen Bee Foundation’s Trees for Bees Community Tree Grant.
Through this project, we’ll be planting pollinator-friendly trees and shrubs to create more food and habitat for bees and other pollinators.
Stay tuned as our planting project comes to life.
The grants are proudly supported by Flow and Rabobank’s Rabo Community Fund.

What a busy week of learning we have had at Mount Fox!

Our students have continued building the literacy and numeracy skills at the heart of our school improvement work—with plenty of fun and curiosity along the way. In English, they have been refining their persuasive writing, strengthening their arguments and choosing language that will convince their audience. In Maths, students have been estimating, measuring, comparing and working through problems that encouraged them to explain their thinking and try different strategies.

Science brought plenty of noise and excitement as we investigated how different sounds are made. The students experimented, listened carefully and tested their ideas through hands-on learning.

Outside the classroom, our passionfruit vine has been producing an amazing crop, and the students had lots of fun collecting the fruit. One of our favourite parts of lunchtime has also been watching one of our local emus regularly walk along the fence line with his chicks.

Another week filled with hard work, curious thinking and those special little moments that make learning at Mount Fox so much fun!

Community update – Mount Fox multipurpose court

Thank you to the community members who joined us this afternoon to discuss options for accessing the new multipurpose court outside school hours.

As the court is located on school grounds, community use can only occur when a current Hire Agreement and appropriate Public Liability Insurance are in place. These are Department of Education requirements and cannot be waived.

The meeting discussed three possible ways forward:

forming a Mount Fox State School P&C Association;
the Mount Fox Community Progress Association entering into a Hire Agreement; or
establishing a Mount Fox Tennis Club.

For any of these options to progress, there will need to be genuine community interest and people willing to take an active role. The school can provide information and support, but this will need to be a community-led and sustained approach.

We are now gathering further information about insurance requirements, costs and whether guests could be covered. We will also seek advice about what would be involved in establishing a local tennis club.

If you may be interested in joining or supporting one of these groups to help facilitate community access to the court, please send us a private message or contact the school.

We would love to find a workable way forward while ensuring all departmental requirements are met.

What a busy week of learning at Mount Fox!

We worked hard on our persuasive writing and had fun exploring different shapes and objects in maths. Safia continued to enjoy her online learning, connecting with students from across the state.

It was also exciting to welcome our Little Learners back for the first playgroup session of 2026 and enjoy another lovely craft morning with our families.

Thursday was a big day at the Small Schools Sports Day—and we were definitely all very tired by the end of it!

We are also very proud to still be sitting at 100% attendance for Term 3! Keep up the great work, everyone!
