We lead with curiosity β so when Community Early Learning Australia ran its Getting Started with AI leadership training, we made sure we were in the room.
What a session. Thank you to the CELA team for a grounded, practical introduction to something the whole early childhood sector is grappling with right now.
β Our biggest takeaway? When it comes to AI, most early learning services are largely on their own.
π« Here's why that matters. Governments are building secure, purpose-built AI tools for schools. Queensland's Corella, for example, is being rolled out to all state school leaders and teachers by June 2026, hosted within a secure government environment so data stays private and stored in Australia. But those platforms are built for state schools. If you run a private, independent, community, boutique or franchise early learning service, you generally won't have access to them β you'll be using commercial tools like ChatGPT and Claude instead.
π‘ Which makes two things essential for every service:
β Having an AI policy in place
β Providing staff training so your team can use these tools confidently, safely and ethically
Privacy is one of the key considerations when using AI. Personal or sensitive information about children, families and educators should not be entered into commercial AI tools, as information may be stored or processed in ways that are outside your service's control.
Used well, though β think drafting and summarising admin, with everything de-identified first β AI can genuinely reduce workload and save time for early childhood professionals across all areas of a service.
π« And the national picture supports this: the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools, endorsed by Education Ministers in June 2025, is designed to support everyone connected with education β service providers included β with early childhood settings expected to adapt it for play-based environments.
If your service is ready to put an AI policy and staff training in place β or you're simply not sure where you stand β let's start the conversation.

Big news for Australian families: from 1 July 2026, the Government's Paid Parental Leave scheme expands to a full 26 weeks (six months) for children born or adopted on or after that date β the final step in a multi-year expansion, paid at the national minimum wage and now including superannuation. π‘
More time at home in those precious early months, and more flexibility for parents to share the caring.
One thing we often get asked about, so let's clear it up: Paid Parental Leave and the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) are two different things. PPL supports you while you're caring for your baby at home. CCS helps with your fees once your little one starts at an early learning centre β and these PPL changes don't affect your CCS.
For families, it simply means a bit more breathing room to plan their return to work and choose the right early learning centre when the time is right.
For the centres we support, it's a reminder that great communication with families starts long before enrolment day.
