The trials are only a few weeks away. Do not panic and remain calm and positive. A positive mindset is the key to success. Its time to revise the material and develop good study habits and notes. Focus on your work and do many past exams under exam conditions. Make sure you are familiar with the key points and what examiners are expecting from a good response. Make sure you clearly and concisely answer the question. The trial exams are not the HSC they are used as feed back for you to determine how much you need to revise and learn before the actual HSC. Good Luck and remember that you can gain experience in these exams which can be used for the HSC.

Tips on preparing for the Trial HSC Chemistry Exams
1) Know how to balance and identify the following reactions;
- neutralisation reactions
- precipitation reactions
- redox reactions
- decomposition reactions
2) Learn how to write half reactions for redox reactions(including electrons) and identify the oxidant/reductant in the reaction
be familiar with oxidation states/numbers (exception to the rules).
3) Be confident with the concept of limiting reagent and identifying it in the reaction and also be confident to determine the final concentration of each species.
4) Understand clearly the different types of intermolecular forces between the molecules and be able to identify each when given different molecules. (Hint.....remember some molecules have more than one intermolecular forces.)
5) Understand the experiment procedures of gravimetric analysis and the errors which can change the final result. Be able to calculate he final percentage of the analyte (species being determined).
6) Understand the basis principle of atomic absorption spectrophotometry as well as calculating the final concentration determined in parts per million.
7) Understanding the experimental of acid/base reactions
also the theory of hydrolysis (when an ion reacts with water) and the theory of back titrations (the most tricky titrations in the course).
Good Luck to everyone in the exams.
A parent's recommendation about our service
Harry,
My daughter Chloe a Year 10 Student a few years back was really struggling with Maths, in fact she hated it and was talking about not doing Maths for her HSC. She had limited options for her subject selections, so i encouraged her to give Maths a go. This is when we began searching for a good tutor. Harry from Master Coaching come highly recommended.
She started tutoring and within a few months was keen and even liking it again. The tutor was responsible for giving her a way of looking at Maths differently a new perspective therefore making it easy to understand. She went on to do 2 unit Mathematics for her HSC and excelled with a very decent 89% mark in her final exam.
Without a doubt it would not have been possible without the help of the tutoring she received at Master Coaching.
Our thanks to Harry and his team of professional tutors.

7 Steps to successful planning for the HSC Trial Exams
1) Learn your work over a period of time. You cannot learn the material quickly in just a short period and expect to remember it in an exam.
2) Go back to previous notes and revise. Adjust or add any extra material or examples.
3) Start practicing exam styles questions under exam conditions (without referring to your notes). Ask another student/tutor to review your answers and provide feedback.
4) Have a strategy on how to approach different style of questions.
5) Use different sources/references to learn and practise questions (always make sure that the source contains full solutions to the questions).
6) Remember it is more effective to know 100% of eighty percent of the course than to know 60% of the entire course.
7) Keep practising until you are confident.

Testimonial from a past HSC Student.
My name is Astrid and I graduated from Caringbah Selective High School last year. I began tutoring classes at Master Coaching Hurstville in search of additional assistance for my four units of English. Master Coaching met my needs by providing a tutor that was right for the level of English I did. My tutor, who did the same modules as I sat for the HSC, was able to speak from experience and through our combined knowledge, we were able to discuss concepts and ideas I could never have achieved on my own. My tutor helped me to solidify the things I learned in class and furthered my writing through challenging and extending my critical thinking. In doing this, my marks began to increase and I regained some of the confidence I had previously lost. Through the highly professional tutoring available, I improved by thirty ranks in English Advanced, finishing 15th out of 155 students. I achieved a band 6 in English Advanced, a band E4 in English Extension 1 followed by a high band E3 in English Extension 2 obtaining an overall ATAR of 95.9. I highly recommend Master Coaching to anyone who wishes to work hard and persevere in order to achieve their goals and see success as a result.
Preparing for exams is a main area students feel or believe there is never enough time to prepare. The secret here is for them to start to prepare their own notes early as possible. Setting aside time to write up clear, concise notes and then going back constantly add and improve the contents of the notes is very important. Writing the reference of the book and page numbers is also good practise. Having a friend or family member to review the notes and make sure they are easy to understand is a good idea for receiving constructive feedback to further improve on the notes.
Regarding the subject of Maths, writing out several key examples and understanding each step is important.
No matter how well they think they know the subject matter the real test is doing several exams under exam conditions and making sure that they are able to complete in the allocated timeframe and getting the exam marked from an experienced coach.
Lets hear your feedback on this topic.
