Muay Thai Training

A lot of people start Muay Thai for different reasons. Some do it as a form of exercise, others self defence and some even for show.

As a martial art, it differs in that there’s no formal grading in place. Traditionally, you train, you fight and if you’re not too beat up, you fight again in a week or two. If you lose, you’re made to train harder.

That’s it.

If you’re not a fighter or don’t have aspirations to fight then it’s easy to lose your way and stop training.

For most, this equals training once or twice a week for a few months then miss a few weeks then months and eventually cancel their membership.

This is mainly because they don’t have a goal in place or they don’t feel they’re improving.

That’s why it’s so important to put effort into your Muay Thai training. Meaning you turn up to class (even when you don’t want to), you remain consistent each week and when you’re not in the gym, you’re practicing at home.

That way you’re continually working on your form and techniques. So that when you come to class, you’re able to apply that effort into practice.

So if you’ve been training for a while, ask yourself,
“What am I going to improve on this week/month?” And put your focus on that each and every class.

Beginners or people less physically gifted (uncoordinated) should focus on just making a conscious effort to come train regularly each week. Whether it’s once or 5 times each week.

Regardless of your experience level, always talk to your coach about what you want to get out of your training so that they help you and point you in the right direction.
