MARRI MITTIGAR// Inspired learning in full bloom 🌸

Over the past two weeks, our Marri Mittigar students have explored the work of artist CJ Hendry, drawing inspiration from her Flower Market exhibition in Sydney. Through pencil, watercolour, and sculpture, students imagined and created their own vibrant flowers and vessels—each piece a reflection of creativity, patience and personal expression.

This project forms part of our Monday Visual Arts program, where students of a refugee experience are supported to learn, create and connect in a nurturing, trauma-informed environment.

We are so proud of the imagination and care behind every work—and grateful for the inspiration that sparked it.

DEBATING// A great year for Barker debating with two excellent Grand Final wins.

🏆Barker’s Year 9 ISDA team triumphed in their Grand Final at St Josephs College, defeating a very good Monte in a tight final. The team of Chelsea, Alissa, Micah and Sol affirmed the vocationalisation of the teaching profession. This was an even greater victory because two key members of the team – Anna and Sayuri – were in Central Australia on extended stay. Congratulations to the team and to Uni coach, Jehiel Pather and staff coach, Mr Steven Allan.

🏆Also, Barker’s Year 8B FED team triumphed in their Grand Final at Sydney Girls High School defeating a strong Tara team in another close encounter. The team of Scout, Jayden, Abi and Jacquelyn affirmed that terminally ill patients should be able to use experimental treatments before they are approved. Congratulations to the team and to Uni coach, Christian Alvarez and staff coach, Mrs Lucy Solomon.
