When Briony Akle brought Uneeq Palavi to the NSW Swifts last year, she didn't just give her an opportunity to debut in Super Netball.

She gave her a new lease of life.

“When I went to Swifts, Briony pretty much told me just to be myself. Before I went to Swifts I had sort of lost that part of myself,” Palavi tells Fox Netball.

“I thought I had to fit in to this image of a netball player that I didn’t really have to. When Briony was telling me just to be myself, it gave me that spark back, my flair and putting in what I can.”

Now back under Tracey Neville and Nicole Richardson at Melbourne Mavericks, who are helping expand her game to playing goal attack, Palavi intends to become one of Super Netball's eight first-choice goal shooters.

In returning to the Mavs as a training partner, on a modest $5000 salary, 24-year-old Palavi backed herself to achieve her dream by making an extraordinary sacrifice 💙
