G E M Wheel @ HPS
Gratitude Empathy Mindfulness

To support our whole school approach to wellbeing through the Resilience Project, each week we spin the GEM wheel to challenge our students and staff to lead happier and more resilient lives through the daily practice of the GEM principles.
Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness doesn’t just happen we need to work on it everyday so we encourage our HPS community to take up the challenge with us!
This week’s challenge is to ‘thank someone for something specific that they have done.’

🌟Premier’s Debating Challenge

Last week our two debating teams competed in the last round of the Premier’s Debating Challenge.
Holbrook Blue debated against Holbrook Yellow on the topic ‘students should engage in 30 minutes of excercise each day.’
Through participating in the 4 rounds of the debating challenge we have seen huge growth in our students ability to structure their thoughts logically, express their ideas clearly, enhance their public speaking sills and improve their overall self confidence.
All of our year 3-6 students and staff joined us for the debate and were very impressed by both teams. 👏👏👏👏
Congratulations to Holbrook Yellow the negative side who were successful in this round.
We are eagerly awaiting all results from participating schools to see if any of our teams progress through to the regional knockout finals series.
Thanks to Mrs White and Mrs Purss-Semple to supporting our teams and organising our debates.

CLEVER CATS IN 5/6 MAGPIES!
Mrs. Ross and Yr 5/6 have taken a little inspiration from 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (an SBS TV show) and participated in our own Countdown session during Maths this week!

Students have been putting their maths and quick-thinking skills to the test as they race against the clock. Their aim, to make a target number using randomly generated numbers. There have been plenty of laughs, some very creative answers and a healthy dose of friendly competition!

It’s fantastic to see students thinking flexibly, taking risks, sharing their working out and celebrating each other’s clever ideas. Who knew a few numbers and letters could create so much excitement for students and teacher!?
