The University of Tasmania Technology and Computing Society was created in 2014 to replace TUCS, the Tasmanian University Computing Society.

The UTAS Technology and Computing (TECH) Society is a university society for those interested or studying in the field of ICT, aiming to facilitate learning and collaboration and to enable students to network and communicate with industry specialists. Come and join the TECH Society at our Annual General Meeting for 2021. Our meeting will be held on zoom on Thursday the 25th of March at 2pm.
This is an important meeting for the Society as this is where we will elect the new executive that will be running the Society for the year. Everyone is invited to attend, whether or not they are currently studying ICT at UTAS or want to run for an executive position.
The following positions will be available:
President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, General Representative for MITS students, General Representative for BICT students and other general representatives.

ICT Welcome Lunch 09/02/2021

Welcome to all new and returning ICT students.
To welcome everyone back on campus heading into semester one, there will be a free BBQ for all ICT students at the top courtyard of the Centenary Building from 12pm to 1:30pm on the 18th of February. So come along and grab some free food and meet some new people going into the new year.

Amazing opportunity for students to be involved with Microsoft. Microsoft is looking for Student Ambassadors across Australia. Student Ambassadors are campus leaders who bridge the gap between university and Microsoft. Apart from access to exclusive learning resources, events and swag, Ambassadors also get to work with Microsoft professionals to host events, workshops across Australia. This is an excellent way to get involved with the tech community and make connections at Microsoft.

UHack is coming soon!
UHack is a UTAS weekend-long hackathon where teams work on coming up with an innovative idea and create a business plan and pitch video. The business plans and pitch videos are then judged by a panel of judges where prizes can be won, or even the opportunity to turn your idea into reality. UHack is open to everyone, regardless of whether or not you are a student. UHack will be held fully online this year and will run from the 21st to the 23rd of August.

GovHack is coming soon
GovHack is the largest open data hackathon in the southern hemisphere which supports the creation of community-based solutions using government data. GovHack runs from the 14th to the 16th of August and is free to participate. Participants can sign up solo or in a team of up to 10 people to be creative and innovative in creating cool projects. This is a great opportunity to get some experience, network with others and win some prizes along the way.
