All Martial arts coaches stand on the shoulders of giants. I continue the legacy of a lot of different styles and I have this display in home to remind myself.
These images contain the people and the styles that have contributed to what I do.
These images cover: Aikido, Hapkido, Muay Thai, Judo, Jujitsu and Vale Tudo, all of which contribute to my knowledge and skills.
Respect your roots.

So proud of my student Sim Sala
It was with great pleasure that we were able to award the wonderful Simon Salah his Blue Belt.
Sim embodies the essence of what a HMAA blue belt is. His technical knowledge, physical application, professional approach and humble demeanour have made him be the grappler that he is.
Thanks for making HMAA a better place by being part of it Sim!

I'm very excited to be sharing the knowledge I have gained from my experience as a martial arts coach and competitor.
How we breath and how our our opponents breath are the secrets to success.
Hopefully see you there!

I have to say, tonight was pretty cool. Spending time on the mat with the legendary Yodkhunpon Sittraiphum "The Elbow Hunter of 100 Stitches" was a great experience.
Not just because of his amazing knowledge and details, but because of how he taught. I was able to shadow him for a lot of the seminar that he taught at my gym Hobart Martial Arts Academy and I was stunned at how much time he gave everyone who was there. As far as I could see, everyone received the equivalent of a private lesson and had the techniques tailored to suit their style.
As a coach, I always try to learn more about how to coach and tonight I learned a lot.
Knowledgeable, experienced, friendly and humble, what an amazing man Yodkhunpon is.

One thing my students get a lot of is diagrams on a whiteboard....
I used this image to help show the kids in my class how to find connections between different techniques. It is the connections between individual techniques that build combinations and eventually complete games.
This lesson was about the importance of building games around combinations of three attacks, a "triple threat". Three attacks allow for two alternative attacks to go to when one attack is defended, dramatically increasing the chance of catching your opponent.
I encourage my students to develop the awareness of simple mental connections between as many options as possible to allow triple threats to be built in as many circumstances as possible.
Fight smarter, not just harder.....
