TasTAFE recently welcomed participants in Hydro Tasmania’s Girls in Power program to our campuses in Clarence and Alanvale, with the aim of introducing female school leavers to the exciting career opportunities available in the field of electrotechnology.

Participants enjoyed hands-on workshops and learnt how to wire an electrical board and build an extension cord – all under the trained eyes of TasTAFE teachers.

The Girls in Power program began in 2022 with the aim to inspire year 9 and 10 female students to consider choosing STEM subjects in years 11 and 12. Along with visits to TasTAFE’s specialist training facilities and tours of Hydro Tasmania’s vast infrastructure, the students are presented with clear career pathways into the electricity, gas and water industry sectors.

Congratulations to TasTAFE learner Cerys Phillips, who has been awarded the 2026 Women in Hospitality and Tourism Tasmania (WITH Tas) Student Scholarship 🏆
Cerys’ journey began at Hobart College, where she discovered her passion for tourism while completing a Certificate II in Tourism. Since then, she’s continued to build her skills at TasTAFE—progressing through Certificate III in Tourism and now studying the Advanced Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management 🙌

This prestigious scholarship not only provides financial support, but also opens the door to mentoring, peer connections, and exclusive industry events—setting Cerys up for an exciting career ahead.

👏 A special shoutout as well to Anna Kidd, Certificate III in Tourism learner, who received the Encouragement Award. A passionate storyteller, Anna is dedicated to creating unforgettable visitor experiences across Tasmania.

TasTAFE staff and learners played their part for a great cause today 🍰☕

Across the state, our campuses and training facilities came together for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea - sharing food, a cuppa and plenty of good conversation, all in support of Cancer Council Australia.

We smashed our fundraising goal, raising close to $3000 for cancer research
