For today's Pillars session, our Year 10 students heard from an inspiring panel of recent SMC graduates who are now studying or training across a diverse range of pathways.
We were thrilled to welcome Jorja Geeves (Class of 2019), who is carving out a career in the local performing arts scene; Bella Metwari (Class of 2024), a trainee constable currently completing her training at the Tasmania Police Academy; and Olivia Walter (Class of 2024), a first-year paramedicine student at UTAS.
A huge thank you to our amazing alumni for so generously sharing their journeys since leaving St Mary's. Each panellist offered thoughtful insights into their pathways and plenty of practical advice to support our Year 10s as they begin considering their Year 11 subject selections.
It was also fantastic to have several Year 11 and 12 students join the session for a glimpse into life beyond school as they begin exploring their own next steps.
We are grateful to Jorja, Bella and Olivia for their time, encouragement and genuine willingness to guide our students. Be sure to stay in touch with SMC!

'The Deplorables' catapults us back to Bendigo, 1874 for Australia's first women's cricket match. But this isn't just a sports story. 🏏It's a funny, fierce and inspiring celebration of game-changing women who refused to sit quietly on the sidelines.

Make some noise for the Tasmania Jewels!
🗣️🗣️🗣️💎💎💎⛹🏽♀️⛹🏼♀️⛹🏻♀️
Our students kicked off their Monday in the best way possible, taking on elite athletes – and one very competitive jack jumper.
This morning, the College welcomed Tasmania Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard and several Jewels players for a high-energy basketball clinic with our Years 4–6 and Year 8 HPE students.
Students jumped straight into mini games, drills and a dance-off, enjoyed sideline fun with Jack the Jumper, and capped it all off by receiving their own Game Time tank tops before lining up for autographs with the players.
📣The Jewels also shared a major milestone for women's sport in Tasmania: SMC alumna Taylor Mole (Class of 2017) has officially signed as their first Tasmanian-rostered player for the inaugural WNBL season.
We’re so proud of Taylor, who continues to be such an inspiring role model for us here at St Mary’s College. Seeing her back at her old stomping ground ahead of the next chapter of her basketball journey reminded students that motivation, hard work and self-belief can take you far.
Congratulations to Taylor (it’s your time to shine!), and a huge thank you to the Jewels for creating such a memorable experience for our students.

We are growing as our seasons change, the leaves fall and beanies and gloves come out of cupboards.
Making the most of the sunny days and leaning into the cooler ones, while making school-day memories along the way.
