Our Visual Arts students have been engaging with Tasmania’s vibrant arts scene through a series of recent excursions to MONA and TMAG, building on earlier visits to exhibitions and galleries across Hobart.

At TMAG, students explored the Becoming Modern exhibition, with curator Ash Kerr generously sharing insights into the works, themes and curatorial decisions behind the exhibition. Earlier in the year, students also visited the University exhibition Against the Instant, as well as the Sun Room Gallery, Art Mob, and the Henry Jones Art Hotel, with students approaching each space from the perspective of the curator. These experiences were enriched by a visit from art critic Lucy Hawthorne here at Elizabeth College.

We now look forward to showcasing our own students’ creativity at the Arts Showcase on Wednesday 1 July and we hope to see you there!

Our Physical Sciences 2 students have been busy getting hands-on with experiments!

They tested balloon racers, exploring how forces and motion work in action before moving on to calculating speed and measuring results. Students also tried their hand at extracting essential oil from orange peel, which was a great way to see chemistry come to life.
