A Big Picture story from Launceston. Thanks ABC! We have wonderful student stories here in Hobart too. Our 9-12 program is several years younger than Launceston's but we are growing all the time. It's such a privilege to be able to teach in Big Picture and be a part of the lives of young people who have chosen to do this learning design.

Sienna was lost and lonely while learning at home. Everything changed when she found this school A group of schools that allows high school students to study all subjects in a small class with a single teacher could be part of a re-think of Australia’s education system.

An amazing opportunity for our students who are interested in wildlife and veterinary work.

Wildlife volunteering opportunity during the holiday in Hobart.

Volunteers needed!!

Hi all,
I am looking for volunteers to help with an experimental design targeting eastern barred bandicoots (EBB). The experiment is based around Hobart (Waterworks reserve and Ridgeway) and involves digging holes in the ground to insert feeding plots, sifting through soil, and setting up wildlife cameras (in the PM). The aim of this research is to identify the level of naivety of EBBs towards cats in the landscape.
WHEN: Monday 17 April – Friday 21 April.
TIME: Early morning (sunrise) until around midday. Then return at dusk to re-set the experiment.
WHERE: Waterworks Reserve and Ridgeway
Preference will be given to those who can attend multiple days, but it is not necessary. I can help with transport for those around Hobart.

Heads up!
Monday 13th is a public holiday. Our student-free day for moderation is 6th April, the day before Good Friday. The colleges have next Tuesday as a student free day but not our 11/12s!

Big Picture students are to go directly to the Town Hall space on Wednesday 8 February.

This is a sobering article but Launceston Big Picture School and the Big Picture design are mentioned favourably.

Students' numeracy skills in decline, as report slams strategy for doing 'little' to help The Productivity Commission blasts Australia's national education strategies, saying they have done "little" to improve student outcomes over the past five years.

Reminder to students to bring bags and boxes to BP for taking things home or boxing them away for next year. Thank you!

Grade 10s went to the Tahune Airwalk today - the weather was beautiful!

Reminder to Grade 10s for tomorrow (Wednesday). We leave school at 8.30am sharp for our excursion.
