Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program Update - November 2025
Additional interim nomination allocation

While the Australian Government has not yet confirmed full program year nomination quotas for 2025-26, it has provided a further interim allocation of skilled visa nomination places to states and territories. For Tasmania, this allocation provides a further 450 places:
300 for subclass 190
150 for subclass 491.

The 2025-26 Tasmanian Skilled Migration Program opened to new Registrations of Interest (ROIs) on 14 October 2025, with only candidates issued a Gold Pass invited to apply for nomination.

With this additional allocation, we will commence weekly invitation rounds with invitations expected to be issued across Gold, Green and Orange Pass categories.

Second Post-Higher Education Work visa stay periods - Tasmania

The University of Tasmania has welcomed new post-study work rights for international students, after a 15% drop in new overseas enrolments last year.

From this week, graduates in Hobart will receive an extra year on their post-study visas under federal changes.

Vice-Chancellor Rufus Black said the move would boost Tasmania’s competitiveness and help address skills shortages in engineering, agriculture, health and ICT.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Craig Barling said steady growth in international enrolments was vital for financial sustainability and would support offerings for local students.
