Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award
Recognises an outstanding Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student completing (or due to complete) a nationally recognised qualification between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026. Nominees demonstrate excellence in training and a strong commitment to lifelong learning within their community.
The winner receives $3,000 and a trophy, and will represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards in Sydney in November.
2025 winner Braydon Gower achieved his goal of becoming a chef through a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery at TasTAFE, gaining confidence and inspiring others.

🌟 Meet Joshua – 2025 School-Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year!
Balancing a carpentry apprenticeship, Year 12, sports leadership and mentoring, Joshua set an exceptional standard, going on to win the 2025 Australian School-based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year at the Australian Training Awards in Darwin.
Nominations are open for students undertaking a Certificate II or higher, while managing school and work.
