C&K Highfields and District Kindergarten

C&K Highfields and District Kindergarten Children are at the heart of all we do at Highfields Kindergarten. Parents are recognised as the first and most important educators of their children.

We value each child as competent and capable, providing them with the opportunity to learn, grow and develop a sense of wonder in a playful and engaging environment geared to their individual needs. Children’s safety and wellbeing are paramount at our service and are fostered through our child safe culture, responsive relationships, engaging experiences and safe and healthy environment. Each famil

y is warmly welcomed into the kindergarten community and close, considerate and genuine relationships between families and staff are highly valued. Staff are passionate about early childhood education and the vital importance of learning through play to bring out the best in every child. They go above and beyond in their roles as dedicated, nurturing and enthusiastic professionals with a wealth of experience. Our program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and aligns with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines. It is child focused, and child driven, taking into account the children’s unique interests and emerging capabilities as it provides engaging opportunities for developing minds to thrive. The children’s progress is self-paced and they are empowered to become life-long learners. The development of positive behaviours is also embedded to encourage each child’s expanding social skills. Our program encompasses sustainable practices to inspire children to care for our world by becoming responsible members of our community. We value and celebrate opportunities for community input and involvement and are inclusive of diverse demographics, values and culture. We acknowledge and pay respect to our First Nations People; the Jarowair, Giabal and Wakka Wakka people; embracing their culture, the 8 ways for Aboriginal learning and the significance of caring for country. Highfields Kindergarten is a special place, with aesthetically pleasing learning environments both inside and outside, inspiring adventure and investigation. We value teaching and learning in, through and with nature. We are a well-established and resourced community kindergarten, offering a beautiful introduction to education outside of the home.

The children have been busy exploring clay - squishing, rolling, moulding & creating. Clay offers so many opportunities for children to strengthen their fine motor skills, explore texture & develop creativity, while encouraging imagination, persistence & problem-solving. We love seeing where their ideas & little hands take them!

Thanks to the generous support of the Aurizon Community Giving Fund, we have recently upgraded to a modern, high-resolution CCTV system, providing enhanced coverage, live monitoring & recording to further strengthen the safety & security of our Kindergarten.

Grants such as this, enable us to invest in important infrastructure improvements that enhance safety & wellbeing, while ensuring our facilities continue to meet the needs of our growing community. We are incredibly grateful to the Aurizon Community Giving Fund for their investment in our Kindergarten & for helping us continue to provide a safe, secure & welcoming environment for everyone who visits our centre.

🍔 We're in the Grill'd Local Matters jars this July! 🍔

Highfields Kindergarten is one of the three community groups featured in the Grill'd Local Matters program at Grill'd Toowoomba throughout July.

Here's how you can help:
🍔 Purchase a burger, sliders or salad at Grill'd Toowoomba
🪙 Receive a Local Matters token (or online vote if you order online)
💙 Pop your token into the Highfields Kindergarten jar

At the end of the month, Grill'd donates $500 between the three featured community groups. The group with the most votes receives $300, while the other two groups each receive $100 - so every single token counts.

With the last weekend of the school holidays here, why not treat the family to lunch or dinner at Grill'd? It's a great excuse to enjoy a delicious meal while supporting local community. If you know someone planning a visit to Grill'd this month, we'd love it if you could share this post with them too!

Recent rain has our vegetable garden thriving! Corn, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes & beans are just some of the plants flourishing under the careful watch of Annabelle the scarecrow, created & named by the children. As one child proudly explained, "Annabelle keeps the birds away from our vegetables!"

Thank you to Buddies Edible Garden for providing our seedlings through the Growing Young Gardeners Project, supported by Junior Landcare. This initiative enables children to learn about growing food, caring for the environment & connecting with our natural world.

National Reconciliation Week, held annually from 27 May to 3 June, has just been observed across Australia. This year’s theme “All In” invited reflection on how we can work together to build respectful relationships & a united future.

The official 2026 artwork, Gaagal, was created by Otis Hope Carey. It draws on the ocean as a symbol of connection, movement & unity, with concentric circles representing ripples in water - echoing how individual actions & voices can flow outward & create change.

We embraced this concept at Kindy through a collaborative artwork using concentric circles. Children, staff & families contributed drawings & ideas about what reconciliation means to them & these contributions were brought together in a shared foyer display to reinforce that when we are "All In", every voice matters & every ripple counts.

Reconciliation is not confined to one week at Highfields Kindy, it's embedded in our everyday practice, through our Reconciliation Action Plan & ongoing commitment to respect, inclusion & understanding. We are proud to continue this journey alongside our children, families & community every day of the year.

Families interested in future enrolments are welcome to contact us to arrange a visit. We recommend morning tours between 9:30am until 12:30pm.

As part of a recent interest in pets & vets, we were excited to welcome a variety of family pets for special visits this week. The children loved the opportunity to learn about each other's pets & discover how to care for them. We were also fortunate to have one of our Kindy Mums, who is a veterinarian, speak with the children about caring for animals & the important role vets play in keeping our pets healthy.

A big thank you to the families who shared their beloved pets with us, either in person or via photos/emails, & helped create such a memorable Kindy experience!
