🐣 Our Pre-Kindy room has been extra fluffy lately! 🐣

Miss Amanda has been bringing in baby chicks from home each day, and the children absolutely love meeting their new little visitors.

The children have had the wonderful opportunity to learn about the lifecycle of a chick – from an egg to these adorable, soft and fluffy little chicks.

We are so lucky at our centre to be able to share these precious experiences with our little learners. 💛

Last month, the Goodstart Highfields team won a gift card from Goodstart to celebrate our team culture and the amazing work they do each and every day. After going back and forth on how we would like to spend this money, the team decided they would like the money to be spent on providing an incursion for the children in center.

Today we welcomed Old McDonald’s Travelling Farm to our centre! We were greeted with a variety of animals, from fluffy lambs, to chirping chickens, quacking ducks, baby goats, and even a miniature pig!

This interactive, hands-on experience gave the children the opportunity to meet, pat, and learn about a variety of friendly farm animals in a safe and supervised environment. The children were even given the opportunity to brush the animals, and hand-feed and bottle-feed the baby goats!

Hands-on animal encounters like these spark children’s curiosity, build confidence, encourage kindness and respect towards animals, create wonderful opportunities for learning through play, and support children’s understanding of the natural world.

Such a wonderful experience sharing our day with these farm animals, with excitement for our furry and feathered farm friends shared between children and educators alike!!! ✨

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

✨ NAIDOC Week in Our Kindy Room ✨

Last week our Kindy children celebrated NAIDOC Week through a range of meaningful, hands-on experiences that encouraged learning, respect and connection.

The children enjoyed creating their own Rainbow Serpents by decorating wooden snakes with colourful rainbow materials. They learnt that the Rainbow Serpent is an important figure in many Indigenous cultures and Dreaming stories. While stories vary, the Rainbow Serpent is often known as a powerful creator who shaped the land, rivers and waterways, and reminds us of the importance of respecting and caring for our country.

We also gathered for an online story time with Adam Briggs, Our Home, Our Heartbeat, which celebrates the achievements, strength and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The story introduced the children to inspiring First Nations role models from many different walks of life, reinforcing the idea that "you can't be what you can't see." Through these positive stories, the children learned that everyone can dream big, be proud of who they are, and make a meaningful contribution to their community. The story also inspired thoughtful conversations about respect, belonging, caring for Country, and acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land.

The children were fascinated to discover Australian native herbs and spices, learning how Indigenous Australians have traditionally gathered, ground and used these natural resources for food and medicine over thousands of years. Lastly, the children were introduced to a rainstick and discovered its cultural significance and the beautiful sounds it creates.

Our Kindy children’s education throughout NAIDOC Week has provided a wonderful opportunity for them to learn, reflect and celebrate the rich cultures, histories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. 🖤💛❤️

💛 A look inside our Nursery! 💛

Every corner of our Nursery Room has been thoughtfully designed to create a safe, calm, and nurturing environment where our littlest learners can play, explore, and thrive.

Our nursery features soft, cushioned mats to provide a safe and comfortable space for babies to crawl, explore, and take those exciting first steps with confidence. There's plenty of room for play, exploration, and discovery, along with a cosy little reading nook where children can enjoy stories and quiet moments.

There are also comfortable spaces for feeding with cosy couches and seating, allowing our educators to give bottles, enjoy cuddles, and provide one-on-one care in a calm, nurturing environment.

When it's time to rest, our cot room offers a peaceful sleep environment with air conditioning, blackout curtains, and a soothing sound machine to help little ones settle and enjoy a restful sleep.

From play and learning to feeding, cuddles, and restful sleep, our Nursery Room is a safe, welcoming space where every child is supported, comforted, and cared for.
