We have an important leadership update for our school community ๐Ÿ“ฃ

As Tony McCormack has recently shared, he will be leaving Urangan State High School to take up an Executive Principal position at Woodcrest State College in Springfield. Tony has been a valued member of our school community since 23 May 2022, and we congratulate him on this exciting new leadership opportunity, which is currently through to the end of 2026.

As we farewell Tony, we are delighted to announce that Mr Andrew Rye will be taking up the position of Principal at Urangan State High School until the end of 2026, commencing Thursday 27 August.

Many members of our school community will already know Andrew. For those who are newer to USHS, Andrew was previously a Deputy Principal at our school before leaving in 2022 to take up the role of Principal Education Officer with the North Coast Region.

A significant focus of Andrewโ€™s regional role has been supporting schools to review and implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Through this work, Andrew has developed a wealth of knowledge and expertise in supporting schools to strengthen systems, processes and practices to improve outcomes for students.

Andrew brings extensive knowledge of our school, our community and the broader education system, along with valuable experience from his time working across the North Coast Region. We are very pleased to welcome Andrew back to Urangan State High School and look forward to the knowledge, experience and leadership he will bring to our school.

Please join us in welcoming Andrew back to USHS and wishing Tony every success in his new role at Woodcrest State College ๐Ÿ‘

We are recognising staff members that embody our curious, creative & connected motto ๐Ÿคฉ

Ms Williams was nominated for her connectedness; "Tilly is a wonderful example of someone who builds genuine connections with both staff and students. She is a breath of fresh air in the English staffroom, always bringing positivity, kindness and a smile (often with a delicious cake in hand!). Tilly has a natural ability to make people feel valued and supported, creating strong relationships with students and helping build a positive sense of belonging across our school community. Thanks, Tilly, for the warmth and connection you bring every day"

Our recognised staff members will receive a voucher from a local business thanks to Advice Centre Hervey Bay! Thank you to the Advice Centre team for helping us celebrate the awesome people at USHS.

Thank you to BayFit Nutrition, in partnership with Mako's Health Club, for their recent delivery of a nutrition session to our Year 8 HPE students.

Students explored practical, age-appropriate nutrition education, including how food choices can support energy, focus, sport & overall wellbeing during the teenage years ๐Ÿ

The session also looked at the impact of highly sugary & caffeinated drinks, including energy drinks & slushies, encouraging students to think about simple everyday upgrades such as drinking more water, including protein, choosing quality carbohydrates & adding more colour through fruit & vegetables ๐Ÿฅ•

A big thank you to the students and staff for their engagement & thoughtful discussion!

Year 7 students are learning about biology classification, naming & identifying! This involves using a dichotomous key - a science tool that helps you find the name of an unknown object by answering a series of questions.

This week, students were given a selection of lollies to identify physical characteristics like chocolate or not chocolate, sour or not sour. Students loved this tasty activity ๐Ÿฌ
