A huge shout-out to our amazing sailors, Lucas, Yr 10 (ILCA 6), Jemima, Yr 7 (O’pen Skiff) and Matilda, Yr 7 (O’pen Skiff). The trio represented Fraser Coast at the Zhik Youth Sail Queensland 2026 event in Yeppoon over the holidays. There were among 250 plus youth sailors from around the country. The action-packed week included an intensive 3-day coaching clinic led by top performance coaches and Olympic mentors, followed by 3 days of intensive racing. They demonstrated incredible grit and sportsmanship as they battled challenging wild conditions with heavy winds and big swells out on the open water.

Sailing is a rewarding sport, building confidence, resilience, lifelong friendships and a sense of adventure on the water. It would be amazing to see more St James students embark on an exciting new challenge and discover the thrill of sailing.

Congratulations Lucas, Jemima, and Matilda – you have made us very proud.

🏀 That’s a wrap on Week 3 of Skills Lab! 🏀

What a fantastic way to finish the term. Our players continued to build their dribbling skills, shooting technique and layups.

This week we had two teams of secondary students led by Ms Eising take part in ‘Write a Book in a Day’ – a competition that raises funds for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

Our teams were given parameters to follow (including characters, settings, complications, and 5 random words) and had 12 hours to write and illustrate a tale to be read by children in hospital. Plenty of sugary snacks and a sausage sizzle dinner thanks to Mr Collins ensured the students submitted their books by the final deadline, having learned how to work together as a team every step of the way.

The finished books will soon be available in the library.

Some of our Secondary students are gaining new skills and getting creative in our Tiny Threads elective. From learning the basics of stitching to creating their own projects, students are building confidence, patience and practical skills while having fun along the way. 🪡
