📚✨ Book Week 2026 – A Symphony of Stories! ✨📚

On Friday, we celebrated Book Week – Symphony of Stories, and WOW, what a day! 🎶📖

Our students kicked off the day by proudly parading their amazing Book Week outfits for our parents and families. We then headed into our morning session where the students completed a book review and some creative colouring activities. 🎨📚

We also had a little staff challenge! 📚🤔 Students and parents had to guess each staff member’s favourite book. It was so much fun seeing everyone’s guesses and discovering some of the stories that are special to our staff!

We loved settling in to read our very own Hernani Highlights book, which our talented students authored and illustrated themselves! ✏️❤️ It was wonderful to see their creativity and hard work come to life on the pages.

After some fun on the sports field, we finished our day in the library, where Lexi shared a very special story of her own. A story created when she was little! What a beautiful way to celebrate the joy of reading and storytelling. 🥰📖

A huge thank you to our wonderful students and families for making Book Week such a fun and memorable celebration! We certainly had a symphony of stories at Hernani! 🎶📚✨

🐦🌿 From Bee Hives to Bird Nests! 🌿🐦

To build on from our bee hotels in Science, we are now learning all about how birds build their nests to safely store their eggs! 🪺

The kids absolutely smashed this task and loved getting creative using natural materials to design and build their very own bird nests. 🌿🍂🪵

We think they did an amazing job! Check them out! 🐦💚

🥁 A Special Drumming Session! 🥁

A huge thank you to Mrs Harris for visiting us yesterday afternoon and sharing her talents with our students through a fantastic drumming session!

The students were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn a new skill and had so much fun making music together. 🥁✨

🔬🐝 Celebrating National Science Week! 🕷️🌿

Yesterday, we were lucky to have Greg Mills join our K–2 students for a special science lesson to celebrate National Science Week!

As part of our unit on designed structures, students have been exploring how animals create their own homes, including spider webs and nests. With Greg, they took their learning even further by investigating bee hotels and how these structures can provide a safe home for native stingless bees. 🐝

The students then put their learning into action and designed and created their very own bee hotels to add to our school grounds! They also planted some bee-friendly flowers nearby to help attract and support our local native bees. 🌼🐝

It has been wonderful to see how much the students have loved this science unit, and they thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Greg, discovering how animals use design and structures to create their homes.

A huge thank you to Greg for sharing his knowledge and helping make science so engaging and hands-on for our students! 🔬💚

🎭 Join us at 9:00am to watch our students parade around in their wonderful Book Week outfits. We can’t wait to see the creativity, characters and stories come to life! 🌟

🌟 Celebrating Education Week at Hernani Public School!🌟

Today we celebrated Education Week with a delicious breakfast before welcoming our parents to join us for our morning meeting. 💛

Together, we shared how we are feeling, as well as the best things about being a kid or an adult. It was such a wholesome and meaningful way to start the morning, with lots of smiles, thoughtful conversations and connection. 😊

We then headed to the library where Anne from NERAM led a wonderful miniature art lesson focused on what we love about our school. 🎨✨ It was fantastic to see our students express their creativity while reflecting on what makes our school such a special place.

A wonderful day of connection, creativity and celebrating our school community! 💙
