Free to be me. Family Day Care I operate a Family Day Care service located in Henley Brook. My hours of operation are 7.30am-5pm, Tues, Wed, and Thursday. CCS benefits can be applied.

Here your children will be in an environment where they have plenty of room to explore in a natural environment. My backyard is set up as a children’s playground complete with plenty of room to run, a cubby house to call their own, a large fairy garden complete with working fairy house and plenty of resources to ensure that their bodies and imagination both get a work out. I put an emphasis on PLA

Y, as this is crucial to the development of children: ‘learning through play’. Music, sensory activities and natural play will all be a part of what we get up to during the day. There is plenty of room inside for activities if the weather should become disagreeable. I have split cycle air con units situated all through the house and a child safe gas heater for the cooler months. In my home you will find:

A caring and supportive environment where both children and adults feel welcome. That we both work together to achieve the best outcomes for the children. An environment with an emphasis on natural play that enables children the opportunity to explore and realise their own individual potential. Children will have opportunities to express their own thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences as individuals. Children will learn to share, grow and respect others through social interaction in a supportive environment. There will be open, honest and confidential communication and respect for you and your children at all times. Hours of operation are:
7.30am - 5pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Friday 7.30am til 3.30pm
$105 per day.

This week the service is looking at differences. We will be exploring the world around us and taking a look at different countries. The children will be using the interactive globe to learn facts about different countries. (LO2, LO4, LO5).

Alongside this the children have been creating their own culinary delights from around the world this week. The children will be rolling, mixing, measuring, stirring, scooping and kneading. Food always tastes better when you have had a hand in making it (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5). Many of these foods’ children are familiar with. Which goes to prove the multicultural world we live in. One big melting pot.

As well as learning that people eat different foods, dress differently and have different customs, Helen will also be discussing ‘differently abled’ people. People who have been physically born different, had an accident or perhaps suffered a brain injury. It is important to instill in children while they are young that different doesn’t mean scary or something to be stared at. People come in all different shapes and sizes, different abilities and capabilities. But they have feelings and needs just like us.

Helen read the children a beautiful book this week called ‘Mama Zooms’ by Jane Cowen-Fletcher. Mummy has a zooming machine (it’s a wheelchair) and on it Mummy and child zoom everywhere 😊 (LO1, LO2, LO4, LO5). Helen discusses that even though the Mummy can’t use her legs she can still do most everything other Mummies can, just in a different way.

Helen has out lots of dollies this week. Some have darker skin while others have lighter. We examined these and explored the difference. But we discovered that they all still had two arms, two legs, two eyes, ears and a mouth. The only real difference was the skin, size of the doll and clothes. A little different - but still the same. 😊 We also compared teddy bears and found similarities and differences.

Helen printed out some ‘spot the difference’ worksheets out for this week. Helen asked the older children to try and find the differences by themselves and assisted the younger children to work through the page (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5). We also made our own cartouche.
