Wow! What an incredible morning at The Piccadilly on Saturday for our National Science Week premiere of Little Scientists, Big Blue and Porci Explores Marine Parks!

A sold-out cinema filled with excited children and families enjoyed two brand-new Porci’s Ocean Patrol films, a fascinating marine science Q&A, hands-on discovery activities, virtual beachcombing, SeaStar Rock performance , plenty of giveaways and, of course, popcorn!

A huge thank you to our wonderful emcee, Lucy Rasheed, and our expert speakers Professor Chris Daniels, Stefan Andrews and Dr Shelley Paull, who shared their knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for our oceans.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this special event and the two films to life, including Fastbreak Films, National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia, Parks Australia, Wallis Entertainment, our Marine Discovery Centre team and volunteers, and everyone who joined us on the day.

This initiative was supported by the Australian Government as part of National Science Week Inspiring Australia - National Networks

And the excitement isn’t over yet! Both premiere films will be released publicly on YouTube this week—so watch this space! 👀🐡

The Marine Discovery Centre mural is really starting to pop with colour!

Students from Star of the Sea School , and then members of our local community, rolled up their sleeves today and joined hands-on painting workshops led by talented mural artist TaylrJay at Ngutungka Henley .

Together, they helped bring the designs to life across the panels that will soon feature on the external walls of the Marine Discovery Centre. It was wonderful to see everyone contributing to a public artwork that celebrates our coastline, marine life and community.

TaylrJay will now add the artistic finesse and finishing touches, bringing all the panels together into one vibrant final piece.

A huge thank you to our enthusiastic student and community painters, TaylrJay, Star of the Sea School and the City Of Charles Sturt for making this collaborative project possible.

We can’t wait to officially unveil the completed mural in October! 🐋🐠🌊

🔬🌊 National Science Week 2026 has officially launched in South Australia! 🧪✨

Our Marine Discovery Centre team having a fantastic evening at the National Science Week Launch at the South Australian Museum Science Centre, sharing some of the incredible marine science found right here in South Australia.

It was wonderful to be surrounded by organisations showcasing the amazing science, STEM experiences and events happening across the state during National Science Week.

And we’re especially excited because our own National Science Week event is almost here! 🎬🌊

Next Saturday, 22 August, we’ll be taking over the Piccadilly Cinema for the premiere of Little Scientists, Big Blue, alongside the premiere of Porci Explores Marine Parks. 🐡🎥

Expect marine science, the Great Southern Reef, hands-on activities, our much-loved Porci and two brand-new films celebrating the incredible marine environment on our doorstep.

A big thank you to everyone involved in tonight’s launch, and to Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, for officially launching National Science Week 2026 in SA.

We’re very proud to be part of a week that celebrates curiosity, discovery and the people who bring science to life. 💙
