📚 Day Four of Book Week — Indigenous Stories 🌿

Today we celebrated the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through the beautiful stories, voices and perspectives shared through Indigenous storytelling.

The children explored stories that connect us to Country, culture, community and one another, creating opportunities to listen, learn, wonder and build respect for the world around us. ❤️💛🖤

A huge shout out to our amazing team and wonderful Hendra House families for getting involved and embracing Book Week with so much enthusiasm! 📚✨ Your creativity, effort and willingness to share in these special experiences make the week so magical for the children.

We are loving seeing the children’s excitement as they discover the joy of books, stories and storytelling together! 🌿📖✨

🌈 Brighter Than the Sun! ☀️🖍️

On Wednesday, we brought our favourite crayons to life as we dressed in colours brighter than the sun! 🌈✨

Our Hendra House community was bursting with colour, creativity and plenty of smiles as we celebrated Book Week! 📚💛🩷💙💚

Day Two: Dr. Seuss 📚🎩

Day Two of Book Week was full of Dr. Seuss magic!

Our Hendra House community stepped into the wonderfully whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, with lots of colourful characters, creative play, silly stories and, of course, plenty of imagination!

From The Cat in the Hat to Green Eggs and Ham, the children embraced the joy of storytelling, exploring familiar characters and bringing their favourite books to life through play.

What a fun filled day of reading, imagination and a little bit of Seuss inspired silliness! 💫

On Monday, we transformed into characters from The Very Hungry Caterpillar! 🐛📚

The children and educators had so much fun dressing up, celebrating one of our favourite childhood stories and bringing the wonderful world of Eric Carle to life.

Hardwired for Relationships 🤍

Dr. Allan Schore’s work reminds us that children are biologically hardwired for relationships.

Before children can independently regulate their emotions, they first experience regulation with us.

A calm voice.
A warm embrace.
Getting down to their level.
Being present when emotions feel too big.
Listening, noticing and responding to their cues.

These moments may seem small, but they are shaping a child’s developing brain and teaching them something incredibly powerful:

“I am safe. I am heard. My feelings are okay. Someone will be there for me.”

Through thousands of these relational experiences, children gradually move from co-regulation → self-regulation → resilience.

This is why relationships aren’t simply something we build alongside learning.

Relationships are the foundation upon which learning, development and wellbeing are built.

Our children don’t need perfect adults.
They need connected adults who are willing to stay, listen, repair and regulate alongside them.

Because before children learn from us, they need to feel safe with us. 🤍

Today, we were so fortunate to welcome one of our beautiful Hendra House families to join us for Science Week! 🧪🔬

With a background and expertise in science, our family brought an incredible hands on experience to the children, helping them explore the importance of germs, how they are formed, how they spread, and why handwashing and hygiene are so important.

Every room had the opportunity to participate in a range of engaging experiences. The children created their own germs and added them to a giant hand created by one of our families. They also explored how germs can spread using glitter, discovering just how difficult they can be to wash away and how quickly they can travel from our hands into the environment.

The children also enjoyed a variety of science experiments using materials such as pepper and shaving cream, creating opportunities to ask questions, make predictions, observe, and discover through hands on learning.

This was such a meaningful and educational experience for our children, bringing science to life in a way that was fun, practical and engaging.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful families who generously share their knowledge, skills and passions with our Hendra House community. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of curious scientists! 💚🔬✨

What an incredible Harvest Swap Market!

We had the most wonderful morning on Saturday, filled with connection, community and so much joy. A huge thank you to our amazing Miss Claire for leading such a beautiful market day and bringing the whole experience together. 💚

In the lead up to the market, our support Floats played a special role in supporting the day, working alongside the children to create delicious Bircher muesli to share at our market.

We were also so grateful to our wonderful Hendra House families who came along to support the morning and generously contributed to our swap table with delicious bananas and goodies from their very own gardens. 🍌🌿

There was something so special about coming together, sharing what we have, celebrating community and showing our children the joy that comes from growing, creating and giving.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Harvest Swap Market such a beautiful morning!
