Our Year 11 and 12 students recently explored how science is applied across industry, agriculture and research during an excursion to three South Australian facilities.

💧 Adelaide Desalination Plant: Students discovered how seawater is transformed into drinking water, explored the plant’s role in securing South Australia’s water supply and heard from the Chief Engineer about water quality, pH control and environmental impacts.

🌱 Waite Campus Plant Accelerator: Students learned how researchers use advanced technology, including LiDAR and robotics, to monitor plant growth and assess crop health.

🍇 Australian W**e Research Institute: Students toured specialised laboratories, explored the analytical techniques used to test w**e quality and finished the day with a mock tasting using different vinegar samples!

The excursion connected classroom learning with real-world applications and showcased diverse career pathways across science, engineering, agriculture and research.

A fantastic day of hands-on learning and career exploration! 👏

🌈 Colour Run is coming! 🌈

Our annual Colour Run will take place next Tuesday 20 October during Lesson 5. Taking part is optional, but we’d love to see as many students as possible there. Permission and payment are required via EdSmart.

✈️ Aviation Career Immersion

At the end of last term, students from Years 9–12 took part in a career immersion experience in the aviation industry at Flight One Academy.

Students gained a hands-on introduction to aircraft maintenance, including identifying engine components, learning wire-locking techniques, exploring air pressure demonstrations and experiencing virtual reality simulations.

They also learned about the Certificate II qualification offered by Flight One Academy and the range of career pathways it can lead to, including opportunities with international aviation companies such as Boeing.

Japan Trip Update 4 – Hiroshima, Miyajima & Osaka! 🇯🇵

Our students have continued their Japanese adventure, with the past few days providing some incredible opportunities for learning, reflection and exploration.

On Thursday, the group visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Atomic Dome, gaining a deeper understanding of Hiroshima’s history and the importance of peace. 🕊️

Friday brought a change of scenery as students travelled to Miyajima Island, where they explored the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, Floating Torii Gate and Omotesando. The students also had the opportunity to take in breathtaking views of Hiroshima from high up on the mountain, seeing the region from a completely different perspective. ⛩️🌿

On Saturday, the group travelled to Osaka aboard the famous Shinkansen bullet train 🚄. Since arriving, they have been exploring the city, including visits to the Osaka Museum and Osaka Aquarium, discovering even more of Japan’s culture, history and unique attractions. 🐠🏙️

These experiences have provided our students with wonderful opportunities to broaden their knowledge, embrace new experiences and create memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️

Japan Trip Update 3 - Experiencing School Life & Rural Japan!

Our students have continued their Japanese adventure, with some incredible opportunities to experience both school life and rural Japanese culture.

On Tuesday, students visited Todo High School, where they joined a variety of classes including Japanese, Geography, Mathematics, Science and Music. They also enjoyed a shared lunch with the Todo students — with some brave enough to introduce their new friends to the Australian classic, Vegemite!

From there, the group travelled into the mountains of Miyama, where students stayed with local families and experienced Japanese culture, cuisine and traditions firsthand. They also had the opportunity to learn traditional straw craft and Japanese cooking techniques.

Miyama provided a wonderful glimpse into everyday life in rural Japan, surrounded by beautiful mountains and the incredible natural landscape. 🌿🏔️

Another amazing part of the journey, with plenty of learning, new friendships and memories being made along the way! ❤️

Congratulations to year 11 student, Jack who has recently signed up with Cooper at Hills Finish Carpentry as a school-based apprentice. Jack will be managing his school load whilst completing a Ceritificate III qualification in Construction.

Japan Trip Update 2 - HHS has arrived in Kyoto!

Our students have been busy exploring some of Kyoto’s incredible historical and cultural treasures, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Nishiki Market and Nijo Castle. 🏯🌸

From wandering through beautiful temples and gardens to experiencing the sights, sounds and flavours of Kyoto, there have been plenty of opportunities to immerse themselves in Japanese culture.

Best of all, students are putting their Japanese language skills to the test, practising their communication skills and embracing every opportunity to learn along the way! 🗣️🇯🇵

What an incredible experience! ✨

A few weeks ago, our year 7–9 girls KO AFL team travelled to Nuriootpa for the semifinals. With five Year 7 students in the team, including two making their Heathfield debuts, it was a great opportunity for our younger players to gain experience.

The girls started strongly with a 26–7 win over Loreto College, before facing a tough Nuriootpa HS side in the second game. After trailing early, Heathfield fought back to within a goal late in the game but ultimately went down by just 6 points (19–13).

A fantastic effort from the team and a great way to finish our 2026 football campaign! 👏⚽
