In the Kagyu tradition, known as the practice lineage, retreat is cherished as a time to be in a spiritually focused and supportive environment for an extended period of time. Whether you are new to Buddhism or an experienced practitioner, retreat is an essential component of the Path.

The retreat venue, Maitripa Centre, provides a tranquil and focused environment to deepen your practice (or you can join the retreat online!). Maitripa Centre was founded by Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX. Such a spiritually significant and uplifting place, the opportunity to practice at Maitripa is precious.

The Journal of Integral Buddhism, produced by E-Vam Institute and Shogam Publications, will be available from the Maitripa bookstore from 21st Feb. Here is an insightful quote about meditation from one of the articles, written by Ani Jangchub Lhamo, a close disciple of Traleg Rinpoche and caretaker and resident nun of Nyima Tashi Centre in New Zealand.

‘In meditation, we are actually learning how to digest experience, how to let life touch and nourish us, instead of always being reactive or reacting to things with a sense of either panic and dread, or of personal preference. Whether we agree or not, we are the creator of our own samsaric nature. It has very little to do with external phenomena. We see the world through a personalised lens, through the illusion and delusion that we construct.
It is the aspect of meditation that gives us the tool to dismantle the delusion.’

The Temple project in Honour of the IX Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche

Our most heartfelt gratitude goes to everyone who has contributed to the Nyima Tashi Temple Project to date. Through your generosity, we have been able to purchase this property and begin the necessary renovations to enable us to immediately open the new Nyima Tashi Centre to weekly Dharma classes, solo retreatants, guests and hireage.

If you are wanting to support the Center through its final stages , which include gib/stop, plastering, painting , restoration of the kauri floors.
We have launched a fundraiser through GoFundMe, to seek support for the remaining $30,000 NZD required to bring the Centre to the point of being able to open at its new home.

Prices start at $74 per night (10% discount for E-Vam Institute members). Discounts apply for longer retreats depending on your length of stay.
