About Confluence
In March 2025 Mandy Pickett began developing a site responsive project in her hometown of Healesville, continuing her explorations of ecologies of place and personal geographies. This has given her the opportunity to revisit her short film 'Body of Water' which was filmed on the site in 2019 and is featured in her current Confluence project.
‘Confluence’ a place where waterways meet, was chosen as an overarching creative concept, taking inspiration from the site, which encompasses the waterways and riparian vegetation within Coronation Park and the confluence of the Graceburn and Watts Rivers. This combined with the broader meaning of the word as ‘coming together, flowing together, meeting or gathering at one point’ has guided Mandy’s exploration of the site, part of her ongoing enquiry into public spaces where people and urban and natural ecosystems meet.
The initial stage of the creative development involved a series of small-scale explorations and walks and talks with locals along the Watts River. These works in progress are now nested within the Cloud Time exhibition.
