🎨 Calling all young artists! 🖌️✨

Looking for something creative to do these school holidays? Why not turn your holiday creativity into an artwork for the 2026 Blue Mountains Artfest YouthArt Competition!

Grab your paints, pencils, pastels, camera, clay — or whatever gets your imagination going — and CREATE! 🌈 You could make a painting, sketch or drawing, mixed-media masterpiece, sculpture, photograph, oil pastel artwork, clay creation… or something completely different!

YouthArt is open to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with artworks displayed at Blue Mountains Artfest and prizes awarded across the Infants, Primary, Junior and Senior categories.

⭐ There’s no theme — so let your imagination run wild!

We hope you’re enjoying the spring sunshine and a little time to slow down during the holidays.

Our Steiner Playgroups will be back for Term 4, and bookings are now open.

Playgroup mornings are a chance for children to explore, play and imagine, while parents and carers connect with other local families.

At Blue Mountains Steiner School, our mornings follow a gentle rhythm of seasonal songs and stories, outdoor play, natural materials, simple craft, breadmaking and sharing food together.

🌿 Choose your Playgroup day:

Monday — 9:30am–12pm
Wednesday — 9:30am–12pm
Friday — 9:30am–12pm

Held at Blue Mountains Steiner School in Hazelbrook, our Playgroups welcome children aged 0–4 years accompanied by a parent or carer.

While we’re cosy inside dodging the raindrops this week, we’re looking back at these gorgeous sunny moments from last week!

True learning isn't confined to a desk. Developmentally appropriate learning honours the young child’s natural need for movement, touch, and imagination. Whether constructing detailed worlds in the sandpit or noticing the seasonal rhythms under the cherry blossoms, Class 1/2 is building foundational problem-solving and social skills through meaningful outdoor play.

After sliding tents, late-night tent chats, and waking up with the forest sunrise during our Class 3/4 camp, returning to the quiet warmth of our school routine was a sweet reminder of life's simple comforts.

Camp brought so much growth, independence, and connection this term—and a gentle lesson in gratitude for warm showers and soft beds! 🚿💤

Building independence, one tent stake at a time! ⛺️🔥

Last week's Class 3/4 forest camp was packed with magic, but it was also a wonderful milestone for real personal growth.

The children challenged themselves to set up their own tents, serve and clean up their meals, and practice kindness when tired or challenged. Seeing their growing independence, responsibility, and care for their classmates was deeply rewarding.

Of course, roasted marshmallows over the campfire and delicious meals kept everyone’s spirits flying high! 🥑🍦

“Clichés are such because there is often much truth in them… time really does fly!” ⏳✨

Looking back over the term, Class 5/6 has covered incredible ground! From gazing at the stars in Astronomy to stepping back in time with Greek History and Myths, our learning journey has been rich and inspiring.

The students have also dabbled in real-world Business Maths through our class Food Stalls, and perfected their artistic technique with Sarah while drawing the Parthenon. 🏛️⭐

Sparkling stars, amber sunrises, and powerful owls… 🌲⛺️✨

Class 3/4 recently spent two unforgettable days and a night camping in the pine forest, connecting with Country, nature, and each other.

From painting with watercolours on picnic rugs to torch-lit forest meanders and watching the forest shift through the changing hours, the children embraced every moment. The biggest highlight? Having unscheduled time to stop, notice the natural world, and just be together.

Now we're back at school, practicing our Maypole dance and counting down to a well-deserved holiday break! 🌸🎶

Bravo Class 1/2! 👏🎭

We are so proud of our Class 1/2 students for their incredible performance of The King of Ireland’s Son last week. From learning characters to working as a team, their growth this term has been amazing to watch.

Last week the Kindergarten children heard a Japanese tale called “The Robe of Feathers” during story time, listening as the narrative unfolded. 🌸

Afterward, they brought the magic of the story into their hands, shaping these vibrant, colourful figures out of warm beeswax in response. There is so much focus and quiet joy in the room when handwork and storytelling weave together like this.
