Sitting at a desk—or the expectation of staying still—can be unhelpful and unrealistic for many children. Learning becomes possible when their bodies feel regulated, safe, and supported. Share texts as you move with them, following their sensory needs and rhythms. When we allow children to walk, stretch, sway, or reposition themselves, we create conditions where attention, connection, and genuine engagement can take place.

I LOVE teaching emotional and social concepts through picture books to ALL ages. I'm in my 50's and am still learning from them!

I love that my phone created an album of some of the texts I've been sharing with my clients over the past few months!! Watch the magic... maybe I'll start doing some regular book reviews 🤔

This week has been all about the monsters...

Using Emotion Monsters is one of the most effective, playful ways to teach children about feelings, body clues, and regulation — especially for neurodivergent kids who respond best to visuals, characters, and concrete language.
.. it's also so much fun

You would only do this with children who understand the concept of only blowing out to make bubbles!

REPOSTING:

Hi parents! If you are needing a cognitive/learning assessment for your kids, I have just opened in Katoomba, which means I currently have no waitlist. I am a psychologist and clinical psychology registrar. I absolutely love assessment. I am very passionate about conducting high-quality assessments and work regularly in this area. It has been important to me in setting up my clinic that it should be a calm and sensory-friendly space where people feel safe and welcome.

(I also do ADHD assessments but usually only in support of a cognitive/learning assessment, as I'm sure many of you know that it can be more cost effective to go straight to a paediatrician for this. If you know your paediatrician will accept a psychologist diagnosis, I'm happy to help with this. I am working on developing local partnerships to facilitate multidisciplinary autism assessments in the future).
